On Nov 1, 2024, I called John and he agreed to come to my house and replace toilet and install shower kit unit in my bathroom. On Nov 3, 2024, he came to my home and replaced toilet and started work on plumbing, floor and walls for shower unit. He did not have correct pipes for plumbing, so he left and we scheduled time to return on Nov 9, 2024. He returned on Nov 9, 2024 and did plumbing, put base of shower unit down, attempted to adhere wall panels and started installing glass sides of shower unit. The wall panels were not adhering and there was a gap between the side panels and base of the shower. He put pieces of drywall and plywood between floor and base of shower to try and fix w/o success. He left saying need to let everything sit for few days and he would be back. Appointment scheduled for Nov 23, 2024 at 10:00 am. He did not show or call. I texted him and he responded he was sick. Rescheduled for Dec 1, 2024. at 10:00 am. I confirmed appt with him on Nov 30 via text. He did not show or call on Dec 1. I texted him and he responded he got busy, it would be too late to come and he would make it up to me, giving me one to two hours. Rescheduled for Dec 6, 2024 at 4:00 pm. He did not show or call. I contacted him and he said he ran into problems and wanted to get work done as soon as possible. Rescheduled for Dec 15, 2024 at 10:00 am. I called John on Dec 14 around 8:00 pm and confirmed appt. He did not show or call on Dec 15. I texted him and he responded stating he was sick all day, apologized and had no reason for not calling. I asked him what day he would be coming to complete work and he did not respond, and has not responded to me since Dec 16, 2024. He has left me with a shower I cannot use and appears he does not intend to return to complete work based on multiple no show and no call.

    Business Response

    Date: 12/27/2024

BBB spoke to John who did agree that he should have called to let the consumer know he was not able to keep their last appointment, he shared the consumer also cancelled a scheduled appointment. The consumer asked for the work to be done outside of the work week and the business was complying best he could. The business charges by the hour and said the work he has already done has been paid for, if he were to return any additional work would have come at an extra cost. The business did remove a toilet, but the consumer had already removed the shower before the business started the work. The business does not want to return to do additional work for the consumer.

Called bus and this is what was relayed:

I'm not going back and I did everything in which the consumer paid for.

I will go back if she paid him $100/hr to repair leak.

she ripped the bathtub out herself and I helped her put it in the dumpster and he hauled it away.

There was no contract it was all verbal and if it is taken to court it would be thrown out.

I had her dump water down it and there was no leak and now some time later there is a leak?

I told her $60/hr for my time and that is what she paid me.  She does not owe me any money and I will not be paying her any money

    Customer Answer

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I am not asking for additional work to be done at $100.00 an hour. I am asking Mr. S******* to fix the base of the shower that he left pieces of plywood and drywall under to try and level the base with the floor so the glass panels he installed would sit correctly on the top of the base, fix shower panels he glued on the walls that did not adhere and fix the leak which I believe occurred because he moved the base of the shower after installing plumbing under the base of the shower. I paid him $60.00 an hour for this work and it is totally unacceptable and needs to be all redone. Why would I pay Mr. Sandford $100.00 an hour to fix the work he was already paid $60.00 an hour to do. Mr. Sandford offered to give me one or two hours previously for the inconvenience and I feel he should honor this offer and fix the work he already has been paid for. I am not asking for anything more than that.

    Regards,
