August 26 I paid a contractor, Chris Bosley from Hilton, a $4,000 deposit (and he signed a contract) for a complete tear off/new roof job that was supposed to start September 5th. Since the 5th it’s been excuse after excuse why the job needs to be pushed back. He keeps promising to drop off materials today, tomorrow, etc. and never showing up. His excuse last week was he needed to get his paperwork to the building permit office to get the permit. He then told me that the permit was all taken care of, and this week there are new excuses with him stringing me along day by day. I was not incredibly concerned until I called the building permit office and found there is no permit for the project, nor are there any appointments made to secure the permit. So the dude is lying, and just stringing me along. This job is not happening “tomorrow” or “Friday” or whatever he keeps saying it will be done if he’s lying about having the permit.
I have a huge string of text messages and he keeps putting me off one day at a time. I drove out to his house today and it was the most terrible looking house ever, garbage was all over the lawn. Nobody was home. The neighbors told me he is moving in a week or two but nobody knows where. I called the police and they said I need to file with small claims court, but it will take a long time and I may never get my money back, especially since he is moving who knows where.
