Our truck was damaged while it was being fixed and they would not repair it. They put on a used bumper that did not fit my truck. It took 4 months and still was not finished. They lie and cheat. Never again. Thieves.Business Response

This company was called for a tow 2/2/25 thru ***** **** roadside assistance. They were told to drop the vehicle off 1 mile away at a local body shop. The tow truck company never did as they were told. They took the car back to their shop. They called that night and said the hydraulics on their truck froze and they weren’t able to get it off of their truck. I called them Monday as a claim was put through, and ***** **** called them and advised them to release the car where they were told on Sunday. They also told me Monday their truck was having issues and they didn’t know if they could get it off of their truck. Now as of Wednesday they still have the car and are refusing to give it back unless they get $6700. This is completely insane and outrageous to charge this amount as well as them holding a vehicle they were told to drop off the night they picked it up.Business Response

BBB spoke to the business and the following was relayed: This customer's bill has been paid in full for the services we provided. The customer's insurance company paid the bill. I cannot adjust/refund the customer because the customer did not pay us. Thank you.Business Response

Dear Kevin, We received a call from ***** roadside on 2/2/2025 at 8:00pm, representing ***** **** Insurance, for a "breakdown tow" of a disabled ***** *****. No other towing companies were willing to go out that night to tow this vehicle. It was a cold, snowy and blustery night in the town of Delevan, about 70 miles away from our shop. 3 hours later, our truck arrived to find a car that had left the snowy road, jumped a culvert and was severely damaged, resting in deep snow. Our towing and recovery specialist recovered the vehicle and fastened it to our tow truck so it could be safely towed. ***** finally called us back. I explained that this was a crash and recovery. They said that ***** **** had to reclassify it as a motor vehicle accident. An insurance claim would be necessary by the customer and they would contact them. It was authorized by ***** **** to tow the vehicle to our shop until payment could be made. Accident recoveries require much training, skill and knowledge, along with state of the art equipment. The vehicle was recovered without further damage. However, the severe cold and windchill were taking a toll on our operator and truck. The hydraulics even froze up! Our towing and recovery specialist was out all night on this job. He didn't return to our shop until about 3:00am. Battling the severe winter conditions ***** **** took a few days to authorize all towing and recovery charges without any questions on our charges. The vehicle was then released on 2/7/2025 and towed to the body shop of the customer's choice. It is standard business practice in the towing industry to hold the vehicle until payment is secured. It only took a matter of a few days for this process. Please find attached a copy of the paid invoice. Sincerely, Eric L***, Bald Hill AutomotiveInitial Complaint

Dear Better Business Bureau, Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Mr. ********* complaint regarding repair issues. I have sold many used vehicles over many decades, and this has become the strangest transaction, ever. ***** told me on 07/01/2024 that he wanted to buy this USED, red 2012 ****** ******** with 79,535 miles on it. He wanted to trade in his running 2002 ***** Pick-up. I explained to him he could drive his truck to our shop, transfer the plates after I see an insurance card for the ****** and then drive the ****** home. He agreed to the deal: $7,500 for the ******, $1,000 credit for his old truck, and tax. Taking in his old truck made the total due of $6500, plus tax is $7,020.00 out the door. The next day, ***** called and said his Pick-up wasn't road worthy and would need to be towed, to our shop, from Webster, NY, a 40 mile tow. Typically, this type of tow, for this type of vehicle, for the distance, would cost $300- $400. We towed the ***** in and realized it was junk. Still, we gave him the discount on the ****** of $1,000. ***** came in on 07/02/2024 and gave us $7,020.00 for the ****** ********. Our DMV computer was down, so we could not complete the DMV paperwork that day. Legally, ***** could drive the vehicle home as he had insurance on the car, and we loaned him our Dealer Plate. He was to come back in and complete the paperwork. He called me the next day and said a coolant leak developed while he was on the expressway. I told him I need to see the car to find out what happened. He refused to bring the car back. I told him I must diagnose what happened. He said I needed to refund him his money, wanting $1,000 more than what he paid for the car. I told him that his truck wasn't worth anything and I didn't want his old truck if that was the case. The coolant line was a minor leak, no fault of *******. There were some minor "bugs" to work out of the car since we had previously done a lot of work to it. ***** took the car and then refused to bring it back in to finalize the transfer paperwork. We had to call Law Enforcement since it was our Dealer Plate on his car. We hadn't even paid for the registration because we had not completed the transaction, we did not charge him for this. Eventually (3? 4 days?), ***** decided that we could tow the ****** into our shop. We couldn't find anything wrong with it. We topped off the oil and test drove the car without any problems found. I explained to ***** that there was nothing wrong with the car. We made a small mistake; our employee had not topped off the oil. We apologized for any inconvenience caused. There is nothing that would negate this deal. New York Lemon Law doesn't apply to any of these instances that were immediately remedied. I repeatedly explained to him that this vehicle is safe and sound and is under warranty for 60 days per NY State Law. Still, ***** demanded $8,020.00. ***** stated that he wasn't going to talk with me anymore unless I give him $8,020 ($1,000 more than he paid.) I told him we aren't going to do that. He refused to talk anymore and that we must deal with his lawyer. His lawyer, who has been out of the country and unreachable, is demanding $8,020.00, plus registration fees (which we didn't pay because not done.) Meanwhile, we have towed both vehicles into our shop and stored them both. Yesterday, 09/11/2024 we spoke with a NY State DMV Safety Inspector. He was just as perplexed as we are! We have attempted to contact ******* lawyer, calling several times. We were told she was in Italy. We called again and left messages with her secretary to no avail. A total of about 6 calls to his lawyer have been left with no response. An invoice stating towing and storage charges for his ***** Pick-up are accruing was sent to ***** 07/15/202 and has been unanswered as well. We will send a copy of this letter to ******* lawyer, as well, upon recommendation from the NY State DMV Safety Inspector. We would love to see ***** take and enjoy the car. However, we are not going to refund more money for this car than what was paid. We are also due towing and storage charges for his ***** **** Pick-up, if we are to refund this sale. This ****** is such a safe and sound car; I would not be afraid to put my wife and kids in it! Sincerely, Eric R. L***Customer Answer

BBB spoke to the business owner and the following was relayed: Towing and Storage for his truck exceeds the $7,020 that he paid. I would be willing to honor our original agreement where becomes the owner of the ******* that he purchased. Or the customer can take the car. that he signed a contract and paid for. The contract has a restocking fee that I would waive if he decides to take the car. The car is good, and legally inspected- ready to go.Initial Complaint

BALD HILL HAS HAD MY ***** for almost a year now! They are the butt of the ******* ***** store for not being able to fix a 1980's ***** engine. AS SIMPLE AS IT GETS.... I was originally told "This should be a cake walk, we'll have it running in a couple of days".... A YEAR LATER I have no idea where it stands and it's now torn apart! I am going to have to PAY to have it reassembled and "UNDO" whatever they have done. I reach out to them regularly and stop by.... ALWAYS EXCUSES.... They can't seem to keep a mechanic... I count 4 mechanics fired and then new people brought in since I brought it to them. This company has NO leadership worth a damn and every time I drive by their mechanics all sit outside the back door screwing off... No one cares!!!! I WANT MY TRUCK BACK!!!! 2013 **** ****** was brought in for "brake light". After 2 months, mechanics said "You're better off buying a new vehicle, we have no idea what is causing this light." I looked it up on the internet and found there might be a firmware flash needed. I paid to have it towed to a dealer in Rochester and they charged me 1 HOUR labor.... It was resolved... BALD HILL DOES NOT EMPLOY MECHANICS WHO ARE COMPETENT. They are not to be trusted with your vehicle.Business Response

To start off, Mr. ****** truck has not been at Bald Hill Automotive for a year. It was towed in on Wednesday, December 6th, 2023. His truck had been sitting for a long time. The New York State Inspection Sticker had run out in 2006. The truck had multiple flat tires and required a wrecker to recover it from the parking spot it had sat in for so long. Since there were multiple flat tires and other unknown problems, a flatbed was used to transport it to our shop. He told us to get his truck running and to install 4 new tires. As seen in the picture, this truck is in a state of disrepair. The carburetor had to be overhauled and wiring problems prevented it from firing. After getting fuel and ignition, no compression was found in the engine. A timing chain was installed and piston ring lubricant/ solvent was used in an attempt to loosen up possibly stuck piston rings. Mr. ****, on more than one occasion, drove to our shop, carrying an alcoholic beverage in his hand and showing obvious signs of consuming alcohol, came in and yelled at our employees. He would often swear at them. It came to a point that none of our employees would work on his truck due to his harassment and intimidation techniques. Mr. **** then took his attacks to the internet, making false claims such as that Bald Hill Automotive "got busted." His harassment even has turned to stalking, telling people on social media what kind of car I might be found driving and some other false claims about our company and employees. I'm considering starting a civil and criminal action against him for stalking and slander. To settle things, I told him that we would charge him half price on his bill and even include towing to another shop of his choice within the Honeoye area. He agreed and told us to tow his truck to a shop in Naples. Even though Naples is over 15 miles away, it was worth it to get rid of him and his antics. The bill came to $1,000.00 which included the initial recovery and tow, diagnosis, wiring and carburetor repair, mounting and balancing 4 tires, price of parts, etc. I'm glad that he agreed to this amount since his truck needs further work, this was a big discount to him and we would no longer have his confrontations at our shop.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.
Truck was running in 30 minutes after leaving the shop with work done by a qualified resource. There's so much WRONG in the Bald Hill response, I don't even know where to begin... FIRST.... This was written by someone named "KEVIN", the person I delt with was "ERIC". Yes... It was there for almost a year with no action. Yes. They lost my keys. YES, they tore it apart and left it. NO, it was not running when it left. These people have NO CLUE!!!!! The timing chain was installed incorrectly, THATS why there was no compression. I put 120lbs of pressure into #1 cyl. It held fine.... Over and over and over and over.... I asked them to verify TIMING...... That's all it could have been. They simply said. It's fine. WELL.... NO. It wasn't.... I have no idea of this other crap they are making threats over.... I WILL BE TAKING THEM TO COURT! I'll have my day.... ALL other's should steer clear of this hack job shop.
Regards,
**** ****
