This contractor started a bathroom renovation project on Nov. 6th, 2023 and has only made it through putting down tile. He already charged us $14,000 and just walked out. We are left with no sink, no toilet installed, no fixtures installed, chipped tiles on floor, untilled surface around shower drain, unfinished walls and ceiling, no lighting above vanity area where he promised to install sconces, all written in his contract. We gave him 2 checks in the amount of $7,000 each and he took our money and never finished the job. We want half our money returned so we can have someone else finish the job. This gentleman asked us to pay cash, and we refused. He was trying not to pay taxes to the government. We now have no bathroom! He signed the contract and accepted our payments, one on 11/6, and the 2nd on 11/17.

I had been warned by several people that had dealings with this customer to not take this job, but since I had never had any real problems with any customers before, I figured I would just do my usual good work and every thing would be fine.  I should have headed the warnings.  Starting weeks prior to starting this job, this customer constantly texted and emailed me at all hours, with questions that I either already answered, or could have been asked in person when I was there working. One day in particular i received text messages starting before 5am, and continuing till after 11pm,  of which I  replied  with answers and photos when necessary.   I have documented copies of all this correspondence.  After 16 straight working days on this job, with approximately 5 days left to finish, this customer texted me at 10pm on Nov. 28th a concern about a broken tile in the floor, which I had already explain to her husband I would repair.  Before I could respond,  within ***************************** a text stating " You refuse to respond every time I text you with a question.  If that is the way it's going to be, don't bother coming back."  ( I also have copies of this )  This for me was the last straw after all the work I had done, including changes which i did not bill for.  I had already worked for 16 days, supplied a couple thousand dollars in materials and dump fees, paid a licensed plumber for roughing in plumber, and paid a helper for a few days.  I still was owed $3,500. to finish this job, which I contended was near completion, and I have progress photos to back this up.  I now found myself out of work.  This customer also states that I wanted to be paid in cash to avoid paying the taxes, when in fact it was this customer that asked " can you do better if I pay cash "  but was disappointed when the price wasn't cheap enough.   Also, I had left some of my equipment on the job site since I had intended to come back,  and I offered to drop of some material that I had to help this customer finish their job, but was threatened with arrest if I came near their property. ( I also have copies of this )  I know that you will not find another complaint directed to me in your files,  I would suggest that you look back in your records and see how many other complaints this customer has made about others.
