On Thursday 10 Oct 2024, at 2 PM, my son called me explaining that we had a sewage line backup in our basement. At that time, I was at the Guthrie Cortland Medical Center having a cardiac procedure follow-up. I determined that we needed to call a plumber. We called The Drain Brain, Ithaca, NY. We were told it would be $395 plus for “after hours” work. We had no choice. Thomas L****** arrived, used a "snake" and got water “flow” based on site and sound. He stated that a “vertical” pipe connected to the horizontal pipe was likely compromised. He said that if we had any issues to call. We had another back-up 1=1 hour later. Thomas L****** came out again. Our son asked for a video camera to be deployed. The video shows two (2) rocks in the line, 57 feet from the where the pipe connects from the house. My son saw the video image. My son asked if we could get a copy of the video. Thomas said “yes”. Call the office for the video to be sent. I called t company on Monday at 8:33 AM, 14 Oct 2024. I asked to speak with Lauren. I was told that he was on the phone. I explained our situation. I gave my name, phone number and the issue. I did not hear back from Lauren. I called the company back at 4:04 PM. I asked to speak with Lauren. He answered the phone. I explained to him that I would like to have an Itemized bill with a “diagnostic” statement. I explained that if I submitted that to our USAA insurance company that we may be eligible for insurance coverage of the initial charge of $416.60. I have heard nothing back about that video since I asked for it from Thursday 10 Oct. I went to The Drain Brain’s website and saw that a video is available “upon request” On the website that there are “senior” discounts. I am 76 years old. I explained that my wife (74) has COPD. Getting our service back crucial. I am amazed that there was NO consideration for us as customers, seniors and people dealing with some difficult medical situations.

This company misdiagnosed a sewer problem we had and when we hired an excavation company to do the repairs (Drain Brain does not do excavation services), they followed the diagnosis of the Drain Brain and it ended up to be a false diagnosis, causing us to pay the excavation company to have to excavate and hand-dig for 1.5 hours more than they would have otherwise. We requested to have that 1.5 hours worth of extra labor to be reimbursed. Not only did they end up not reimbursing a dime, but the manager/owner never had the courtesy of notifying us. We called them 4 times and the 4th time the office assistant ended up reading from an entry on our account that the case had been closed. Very very bad customer service when the manager couldn't even return any of our calls to let us know the status of our request. We had previously used the Drain Brain several times in the past to pump our septic and were loyal customers. So to be treated this way is abhorrent. We will never do business with them again.
