I have a tooth that really needs to be extracted, it has an abscess. I wanted it done by an Oral Surgeon since I really hate to the point of being phobic of the needle to administer Novicaine. So, I've have gone on a long journey with changing insurance companies to get the procedure done with an Oral Surgeon at Aspen. The long and short of it is, that the only one oral surgeon they have is no longer in network with any insurance companies. So, your only choice is to pay out of pocket, or use one of their financing services. Makes you go hmmmm. To be fair, Aspen is not alone. There is a growing trend, at least around here, of oral surgeons dropping the headache of insurance to the relative ease of cash payment or financing which both means they get paid without the often Kafkaesque experience to get a relative pittance. However, this is about people in pain and/or illness who need medical care and are put between a rock and a hard place. They are not buying a boat ... it is healthcare. This is nothing against the staff there who are truly excellent people. It is the company policies which they have no control over. I know this is a business and they have bills to pay like anyone else and there is nothing wrong with a company making profits -- but, at least give the little guy a break!!!!
