I’m reaching out because I’ve noticed that RentPrep is pulling credit information that’s over seven years old, even though this kind of data has been removed from my credit report. As far as I understand, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) doesn’t allow most negative credit information to be reported after seven years, so this feels really unfair and misleading.

Using outdated information like this can create unnecessary challenges for people like me who’ve worked hard to rebuild their credit and move forward. It’s frustrating to see old, irrelevant information being brought up again and potentially used against me.

I just wanted to share this concern and hope that RentPrep will review its practices to ensure it’s staying within the guidelines and being fair to everyone.

Thank you for your feedback. We understand your concern regarding the bankruptcy reporting timeline. Our legal team has thoroughly reviewed this matter, and per the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) 15 U.S. Code § 1681c, bankruptcies remain reportable for up to 10 years, regardless of their status.
For more information, we recommend reviewing this section of the FCRA or visiting the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website, which provides helpful consumer resources. Additionally, the Summary of Rights that was previously sent to you—and will be sent again—states:
"Consumer reporting agencies may not report outdated negative information. In most cases, a consumer reporting agency may not report negative information that is more than seven years old, or bankruptcies that are more than 10 years old."
We strive to follow all reporting guidelines accurately and transparently. If you have any further questions, we’re happy to assist.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and don't feel it's satisfactory but also don't think it will ever change so I can't be bothered anymore.
