On 10/24/23, I contacted *************** about working with me to get an awning on an office in ******** **. On 11/24/23, *** quoted me the a price of $2400. ************ said he would call the Town to get on the calendar with them to get an approval for the awning to be installed on the business. On 10/25/23 *************** sent me an invoice in the amount of $2475 - I reached out to him and told him that this is not what was originally quoted and asked for the correct invoice in the amount of $2400 as originally stated. I did receive a new invoice in the amount of $2400 Invoice ****. On 10/25/23, I was also asked to pay 50% of the proposal in the amount of $1615.80. I paid the full amount of $1515.80 on October 25th. I was told the time frame would be 2-3 weeks for the whole process. Then 4-6 weeks. It then went to 2-3 months. Issues began to arise when I found out that ************ missed the date for our business to be on the calendar and we would have to wait an additional few months to be placed on the Town's calendar. My business partner spoke with several women at Mineola Signs who kept asking us for the the artwork which was supplied several times in agreement. Each time I spoke to ***********, he spoke to me as if I had no clue as to what my task was. He asked what the call was about, what the address was and what was the problem. On 10/30/23, I received another invoice, number **** asking for payment on October 31st in the amount of $1615.80. I immediately called Mineola Signs and spoke with ********* who told me she would send an email for me to ignore invoice ****, citing it as an error. On 11/07/23, we received a new **** invoice for $2,267.54, the new whole invoice amount had now changed to $3575.00. On 11/09/23, I requested my deposit back and did not want to continue doing business with Mineola Signs. At this point, I found out that there wasn't any progress done on my request as artwork was still being requested. I just want a full refund of my deposit.

    Business Response

    Date: 01/09/2024

In October, 2023 we provided an estimate to the customer to fabricate and install a new awning..  At this time he stated that he wanted to go ahead with the work.  We took the time to visit the location and survey the site, and to prepare and send ********.  A discussion came up concerning permits and the length of time needed to get them, specifically getting on the calendar to attend a board meeting.  It was explained to the customer it could be a two to three month process.  At this point he asked what he could do.  We gave the customer the option to fabricate the awning and have it ready for installation, as he needed to have it for his opening date.  We also discussed putting it up during off hours.   Fabrication of the awning was started. The customer then said he wanted to continue moving forward with the permit application, and paperwork was provided to him to fill out to complete this process.  Shortly thereafter the customer asked us to stop the job.  As we had already started fabrication, we asked that he move forward with the process, but the customer declined and demanded a full refund.   It was explained to him that based on the work that had already been completed, art files, ordering parts and fabrication of the frame, that we would be OK with providing a partial refund, which was refused.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Thank you for getting back to me.
We provided an estimate for the new awning.  You approved the cost.  We took the time to visit the location and survey the site, and to prepare and send art filesTHIS TOOK OVER 3 WEEKS and we had to keep following up each week only to be asked by various women to resend the artwork in which we did each time.  A discussion came up concerning permits and the length of time needed to get them, specifically getting on the calendar to attend a board meeting.  It was explained that it could be a two to three month process.NOT TRUE A TOATL FABRICATION- this was stated when discussed the first time around - this was stated way after the art work should have been completed - it was not.  We have email verification of this from another worker in his office.

You were given the option to fabricate the awning and have it ready for installation, as needed for the opening date, or putting it up during off hours.NOT TRUE - NEVER EVEN A THOUGHT NOR ENTERTAINED TO HANG AN AWNING WITHOUT PERMISSION ALTHOUGH YOU T0M **** ASKED US.  NOT TRUE!

Fabrication of the awning was started.A COMPLETE LIE, THE VENDOR ASKED FOR THE ART WORK MORE THAN 3 TIMES -  the awning was NOT in process and THEY WERE ALL AWARE OF THIS . My counterpart was still being asked for artwork even though it had been provided several times in various formats.  He was also approached and almost begged to keep $500 of my payment even though the awning nor appointment with the Town was made or created,

You decided you  wanted to continue moving forward with the permit application, and paperwork was provided to fill out to complete this processTHE APPLICATION THAT WAS SENT WAS CROOKED AND ILLEGIBLE ALL OF THE ***** WERE NOT THERE - an incomplete application was sent.  We had to go online and print our own application from the Town's website.

Shortly thereafter you cancelled the jobWE CANCELLED AFTER WE WERE AKSED AGAIN ABOUT THE ARTWORK, weeks after we initially contacted your office.  NO AWNING HAD BEEN CREATED, NO PAPERWORK WAS SENT TO THE ***** NO APPOINMENT WAS SET UP.  Preliminary work to come out and assess a job does not cost anything anywhere - nor was this ever stated.  Please send my full refund back - please do the right thing!

Nothing was ordered -  *************** was asked to help out and allow Me **** to keep $500 as well one of you kept asking for artwork and *********** had no idea who I was on two occasions after a lengthy call more than once.  He came recommended by one of our clients but failed at every turn to produce anything in a timely manner - we were initially told 2-3 weeks.  We also have several texts sent to ** ************* phone asking for leniency so that the women working in the office would not be held responsible for us cancelling.

I would like my full refund no compromise on my hard earned money for preliminary basic work that every other vendor provided as a point of the task before a charge.  we had 2 other vendors show up to to the preliminary task of taking measurements and pictures as well as a rendering of the awning and we had no charges there.  Please do the right thing.
