Warning!! Folks do not order from them! I ordered the Watermelon Ma to be shipped to a friend as gift in Chicago. When it bloomed, it wasn't the color of the Watermelon Ma. We sent pictures that were taken from when received (showing label on pot Watermelon Ma) to present to think it wouldnt be questioned. They basically called us liars and that it wasn't the same violet. I couldn't believe since I had ordered from the previously.

You WERE sent the proper plant--you provided a photo of it, with label on the pot. When you received it, it fit the description perfectly and was labeled properly. You provided us a timeline with a number of other photos. All were "Ma's Watermelon", easily identified by the distinctive shape and color of leaves. Then, suddenly, a photo appeared of a different plant (that looked to have been just repotted)! Of course, the later picture of this different plant had a different flower! As you had this plant sent to a friend, regretfully, must inform you that both you and we are being misled. Was hoping not to have to do this, but you're posting this public review left us with no choice.

Of course it's in a different pot then the 1.5" square you ship it in. I also mailed him the self watering pot from ****** to transplant as it got larger! The one you saw in the picture.
Folks, I ordered probably 4-5 violets from him. Thats $100+ in sales. From my positive experience with VB, I wanted to get my friend of 50 yrs age 65 in Chicago one to get him hooked on raising violets. I would share pictures of mine violets to him. He NEVER owned a violet in his life. He's saying my friend replaced the plant and is being dishonest. The owner wont admit to the error and make it right!

I’ve been dealing with the Violet Barn since 2014, and have easily ordered more than 450 plants from them during this time. Every one of them has been packaged beautifully and the plant are reliably free of disease and pests. The violets hybridized by the Robinsons are some of the most vigorous violets I’ve ever owned. I see some of the reviews talking about “a deadly virus”. I have never had that experience and I’ve ordered over 100 violets during the same time period. I would say that is a representative sample that is valid. I received an order three days ago with 17 plants in it. All were flawless. Literally hundreds of plants that were perfectly healthy came to me from this shop. The Robinsons hybridize many plants, and I have found them to be the most robust violence I have ever owned. Looking at some of these reviews, I find them exaggerated, biased, and unfair.

Was selling violets with a deadly virus (INSV). All of the plants I purchased from them in the last 2 years are dead or tested positive for the virus and had to be discarded. Spent over $400 last year alone and got a refund of $78.20 for the last order I placed. This is a drop in the bucket because I have not only lost the plants I purchased from this source but many others in my collection. And the cost of the kits to test for the virus is $155 for testing 25 violets. After spending over $1000 for test kits and throwing away many plants, ask me if I will ever buy from them again. Owners knew the virus infected chimeras and I purchased several off these. Why didn't the owners inform us so we could protect our collections? Had to find out about this through a fellow grower. Upset about the virus and loss of my plants, but more upset by how the problem was handled. Would like to give this business a 0 but I can't.

Our apologies. The customer was refunded for the infected plants in question. We were unaware of the virus when shipped, as symptoms were not shown at that time. As of November 2022, all plants shipped have been tested and/or shown free of virus, so this should not reoccur. As for the other plants in her collection, INSV is transmitted only via plant fluids--the mere presence of an infected plant in a collection will not cause spread of the virus without presence of pests (thrips). We can only be responsible for the plants shipped, not the owner's collection beyond them. Both an INSV statement and related refund policy are stated on the website.

I was refunded $78.20 for my last order. I spent $421.90 for 5 orders last year alone. I have no plants left. All died or tested positive for INSV and had to be thrown out. The Virus at your business affected mostly chimeras and I bought 9 last year. Some of them died before I tested them and the following plants I had of yours tested positive for the virus: 2 of The Alps, Candy Swirls, Emerald City. Standards that tested positive were: 2 Rainbow's Quiet Riot, Powder Keg, and Blue Dragon. The remainder of the 23 plants died before I had a chance to test them. The positive plants alone cost $130. Probably most if not all of the other plants I had that died, died from the virus also. I am an experienced grower. I have raised violets since the 1980's and taught biology and horticulture for 34 years before retiring. I monitor my plants using sticky strips and use Hi Yield systemic on my plants. I have not seen thrip on the plants that you sold me. My fault was that I trusted Violet Barn to sell healthly plants. There is debate that INSV can be spread by tools or hands used for pruning. I isolated your plants for a few months before adding them to my collection. Your refund was for one order only and I think you have had this problem for a long time. You owe me a lot more than for one order. That does not include the price I have paid for test kits $1011.13. Please remove my name from any reviews I gave your plants to get a free plant. The free ones died also and I do not want my name associated with your business. I will NEVER buy from you again and hope everyone else wises up and does the same.

I have always had wonderful luck with the Violet Barn until this last order. I ordered EK Spring Thunder which was represented as an almost white bloom with pale blue smudges on it. What I got was a very dark blue with some very small white streaks. When I called to say my plant didn't look like the pictures, I was told that's just the way it goes. I was gobsmacked! After all the years I have done business with them I fully expected some kind of adjustment - a new plant - a partial refund - something! Even some sympathy would have been nice but certainly not the brusque response I got. I will continue to do business with them because you can't get nicer violets any where but I don't have the same good feelings about them that I used to have.

Multicolor blooms such as this are inherently variable--as in the proportion of white and blue. It is the genetic nature of the plant. Coloring is also partly affected by culture/conditions--temperature most importantly. Cooler or warmer will affect proportions of white and blue as well. This is true of all multicolor blooms. If variability is an issue, the only way to avoid this is to grow solid color varieties.
