Hired *************************** in March 2022 to put up a 28 x 18 addition to the back of my house on my original deck per architect/engineering plans. Paid him $25,000 deposit. Work commenced in May 2022. All the support (sonotubes) of 24" in diameter and 42" deep were put in the wrong place. This was realized by the building inspector when he came to do framing inspection. The framing was so bad that the structure was almost condemned. It more than failed inspection. We had a meeting with all parties involved. As our architect passed away in the midst of this, we had to find another architect to "fix the plans". The architect advised us that it "should be taken down" as there were structural deficits that would make this structure unsafe or cause problems in the future. We asked to try to correct it. He created plans that involved making galvanized contraptions and added extra sonotube support. ********************** "ghosted us" pretty much since the meeting. He said he would, in the meantime, put shingles on the roof as the inside was getting warped. Weeks...nothing. I sent him texts...promises but nothing. We hired someone else to put the roof up. We decided to get a different builder as we needed this done right and in a timely manner. Presently, it is costing me $26,000 to get this fixed. ********************** is refusing to return any of my money, even though I only asked him for $12,500 (half of my deposit). In addition, he charged me an additional $2400 for pour the holes even though it was supposed to be included. He is refusing to pay me any money back. When I told him that I am now asking for $15,000 (with the scamming of the cement), he offered my $5,000. I said no. I should be asking him for all my money back, plus the damages as he didn't follow the architectural plans. His contract says "according to plans" after all of his scope of work details. I want my money returned to me. My neighbor hired him for a project. They are in the same situation us.
