BBB is unable to locate the business.
The business advertised a vintage Turkish rug as being silk. After purchasing the rug and consulting with two global rug experts, we have determined that the rug is not authentic silk, made by worms, but imitation silk, made from cotton and/or the flos of poplar trees. According to the experts I consulted, use of these imitation silks is common in *******, the region of ****** where they confirmed the rug was made. When I contacted the business to try to resolve the matter they refused and left me no other course of action but to file this complaint and pursue the matter in court. I am seeking a full refund for the purchase price of the rug ($2100), reimbursement for the cost of two professional evaluations of the rug ($1000), reimbursement for return shipping costs ($50), and compensation for the value ($7000) of the amount of professional time I have wasted having to pursue this matter beyond a reasonable amount of effort. Total dollar value of my complaint: $10,250.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Attached are screenshots taken from the 1st Dibs website showing the rug I purchased. Two independent Turkish carpet experts have confirmed that:
This rug was made in *******, ******
This rug is about 50 years old
This rug is NOT AUTHENTIC SILK, because there are no silk worms in ******* Turkey and thus the region has never produced authentic silk rugs. What Kayseri is known for is IMITATION SILK rugs, which they make from processed cotton or the fluff of poplar trees.
The last three images also show a detail of the rug that PROVES it is not authentic, because the short white banding indicated by the bright blue arrows shows where the fringe was ARTIFICIALL.Y SEWN ONTO to the rug rather than being integral to the warp of the rug, as would be the case if it was authentic.
This artifice is also confirmed by my experts.
Wittingly or not, 1DIBS aided and assisted K&D Oriental Rugs fin alsely advertising and selling a FRAUDULENT SILK RUG.
I am seeking a full refund plus damages and am pursuing the matter in State Court.

In order for the BBB to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.
    Sincerely,

    *** *******

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

J&D Oriental Rugs HAS NOT PRODUCED ANY INDEPENDENT, THIRD PARTY ANALYSIS that certifies the rug in question is authentic silk. Any opinions or statements provided by 1stDibs are irrelevant because they have a vested interest in the matter.

I, on the other hand, HAVE PRODUCED TWO INDEPENDENT, THIRD PARTY ANALYSES that certify that the rug in question IS NOT authentic silk, made by worms, but imitation silk, made from plant material.

When either J&D Oriental Rugs or 1stDibs produces independent, third party analysis certifying that this rug is authentic silk, then I will be able to take their response seriously. Until they they are acting as mere liars and frauds whose only hope is that their sheer belligerence will compel me to drop this complaint. Until I am satisfied, there is no chance of that happening.

    Sincerely,

    *** *******
