On 02/01/2024 afternoon, I brought my hard drive to ********************************* from Sherlock Data Recovery Services to find out if he could help me with the recovery of my data. I need to mention that his business is actually in his apartment, and visits can only be made by appointment. If you go there, you will be in his apartment alone, which can feel odd.I asked him how much it would cost to retrieve my data; he said more than $100, less than $1,000. Since my budget is limited, I asked for my hard drive, but he kept it, insisting on giving me a free diagnosis, to which I eventually agreed, even though it didn't feel right. He gave me an invoice for a free diagnosis. I left his place feeling uncomfortable. On 02/03/2024 morning, I emailed him to stop any diagnosis on my hard drive and told him that I want my hard drive back. He answered that I could possibly come today, and if not today, then tomorrow. We eventually talked over the phone, and he said he had already spent so much time just entering the 42 characters of my Bitlocker recovery key. When I asked if I could stop by today or tomorrow to pick up my hard drive, he answered that he is not sure when he will be available to give me my hard drive back, that he has other priorities than giving my hard drive back. This hard drive contains very important and sensitive information, and I am now worried about his professionalism and intentions. Not sure why I cannot pick up my hard drive. The only thing I want is to retrieve my hard drive, hopefully without damages.
