We want to clarify how our ******* markets are determined to help explain the resolution. The contract is settled by taking an average of sixty seconds of CF Benchmarks' ******* Real-Time Index (****), not a single price point at 2:00 PM EDT. The **** reports a price once per second, and in the minute relevant to expiration, all 60 RTI prices are collected. The official and final expiration value is the simple average of these 60 collected prices.
As we are regulated by the ***** we need to meet requirements to keep our markets in compliance, like using an average of the **** (******* Real-Time Index) as a basis to settle these contracts. By using an average of an index that aggregates prices from multiple exchanges, we prevent the risk of price manipulation and errors tied to any single source. It's important to understand that not all crypto price data is the same. While looking at the price of ******* on a single exchange may help guide the user's decision, it's important to remember that the market settles based on the ****'s aggregated data, not just on a single source like ****** or **********
We want to emphasize that we do not benefit based on whether a contract resolves in the user's favor or not. It is always important to read and understand the rules before trading these markets, as we always suggest. For more general information on our crypto markets, the user can check out our help pages.Initial Complaint

We have conducted a thorough review of the account, and our findings indicate that the login and transaction activities during the timeframe in question were largely consistent with the patterns and locations of your account and identity. As such, we were unable to find conclusive evidence of unauthorized access at this time. This is not to say that it did not happen; rather, our review did not demonstrate sufficient evidence to come to that unequivocal conclusion, or to identify a particular entity or person who created and accessed the account at this time.

On 5/29/25 I checked current odds on a tennis match. I made a bet and instantly this bet was accepted and seconds later I turned on my television to watch the match and the match was already over from a bad ankle injury. No bets are ever on any site in the world allowed to be made after an event is already concluded. Huge lawsuit currently with draft kings and someone for a golf weather shortened event. After I knew I was robbed and scammed. I continued to watch the odds way after match was declared over and there was still odds but of course only one option was not available to sell or close your position on the injured playerBusiness Response

We are a federally regulated financial exchange, not a sportsbook. Users trade event contracts with each other, not with us, and we do not profit based on outcomes.
Per the market description and our publicly available rules: If a player forfeits, withdraws, doesn't advance, or doesn't participate, their market will settle to No. This includes withdrawals due to injury. Therefore, in the case the user referenced, where a player withdrew due to an ankle injury, the market rule was correctly applied: the player's contract resolved to No, in accordance with the stated conditions.
Regarding the user's concern about trading after the match concluded: we rely on official data from trusted source agencies to finalize market outcomes. While these sources may take a short time to publish confirmed results, trading may remain open during that period. Importantly, the pricing of contracts during this time is determined by traders themselves, based on their assessment of available information. This pricing reflects the collective market view and not our judgment.
We are committed to fairness, transparency, and regulatory compliance. We are fully regulated by the ************************************ (****), and our rules are designed to protect market integrity and participants.Initial Complaint

Date of Transaction: May 6th, 2025 Time of Disputed Observation: Approx. 5:01 PM - 5:05 PM EST Amount Paid to Business: $14.00 What the Business Committed to Providing:Kalshi committed to providing a fair trading market for an event contract on the Barcelona vs. *********** soccer match. The initial rule for this specific market, as stated by Kalshi, was that the outcome would be determined based on "90 minutes including regulation time."Nature of Dispute (The ************* Advertising):I placed a $14 trade ("Yes" contract) that *********** would win. Kalshi's stated rule was that only 90 minutes plus regulation time would count for settlement. However, after the 90-minute period ended and the game went into extra time. At approximately 5:01 PM and 5:05 PM i placed this bet since I observed Kalshi continuing to advertise this specific game market. Crucially, the market label or description at this time was altered or updated to clearly indicate that "over time" (or similar wording implying extra time was included) was now part of the market's scope.Relying on this updated representation during extra time, I understood the market to now include the overtime period. *********** subsequently scored in extra time, which, based on the then-displayed information, should have resulted in my trade being successful.Instead, Kalshi disregarded their own updated market presentation during extra time. They reverted to the original "90 minutes only" rule, declared my trade unsuccessful, and I lost my $14. This is a clear case of false and misleading advertising, as they displayed terms during a critical period (extra time) that suggested overtime would count, only to revert to prior rules when the outcome did not favor them.I emailed Kalshi regarding this, and they stated they are sticking to the original rule and will not return my funds.Desired Resolution:I request a full refund of my $14.00 due to Kalshi's misleading advertising and unfair settlement of this market.Business Response

We understand that complex resolutions can lead to frustrating outcomes, but our markets are always determined in accordance with the market rules and in fairness to all market participants. We always encourage our traders to read and understand the rules of a market in full before trading. The additional details are added to clarify the rules when our markets team sees an increase in questions about the interpretation of the official rules PDF.
It's crucial for us to define any intricacies in the rules prior to the release of a market to avoid any later ambiguity upon determination. Amendment to a rules contract of a market would only occur in the event of error, and while extremely rare, would require formal notification to the **** and an announcement to all participants in the market. This is aligned with our compliance efforts with regulatory oversight.
This market was set to close at the sooner of the event occuring or two years after it was scheduled to be played. The following market closes shortly after the outcome occurs. Sometimes there can be delays with the data we use to finalize markets, but we must wait for a source agency to publish the finalized data in order to close or determine a market. The price of a contract constantly changes based on what traders are willing to pay for it, reflecting its assessed fair value. The assessment of the value of a contract is the sole responsibility of the trader, so traders should exercise caution when participating in these markets.
It's important to understand that Kalshi operates as a financial exchange. In this model, Kalshi does not benefit whether a contract resolves in one's favor or not, as traders are trading directly against other participants in the market, not us or 'the house'. We offer markets and match traders. Maintaining integrity, trust, and transparency in our markets and platform is everything to us.Initial Complaint

I am filing a formal complaint against Kalshi for failing to abide by their stated rules and for denying me a rightful $9,238 payout due to a misinterpretation of their own policy.I placed a bet on Kalshi regarding the outcome of who would visit the *********** before April 1, 2025. Specifically, I placed a bet on no regarding **** Whites visit, as per Kalshi's official rules, which state that not only does the person have to be physically present at the ***********, but the event must also be reported by specific, credible sources listed in the rules. On the day in question, a journalist posted a photo on ******* showing **** ***** at the ***********. However, this photo did not come from one of the sources Kalshi explicitly lists in their rules. Another customer contacted ********************** support, inquiring whether this photo would suffice as proof of the visit, even though it wasn't from the listed sources. Kalshis customer support explicitly responded that such a photo would not qualify unless it was published by the designated sources.Relying on this guidance from Kalshi's support team, I continued with my "no" bet, as it was clear that the visit had not been officially acknowledged by the required credible sources. However, despite this, Kalshi later classified the outcome as a "yes," awarding winnings to those who had bet on **** ***** visiting, which is in direct contradiction to their own published rules and the response I received from their support.I request that Kalshi honor their own rules by the following:Award me the $9,238 that I rightfully won based on their guidelines and the customer support response. This experience has been frustrating and detrimental to my health, as I was scammed by both the rules and the customer support response.Business Response

Therefore, I do not consider this matter resolved until I receive the full payout to which I am entitled.
Additionally, I would like to note that I am preparing to escalate this issue to legal counsel and will be using this communication as part of the documentation supporting the lack of proper resolution. In order for the BBB to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Nature of the Complaint:I participated in a binary options contract (***** contract for February 21, 2025) on Kalshi, a CFTC-regulated financial trading platform. The contract was supposed to resolve based on the ************************ (***) Daily Climate Report for ************, ***Issue with Settlement:Kalshi settled the contract using preliminary, incorrect data, despite a ************************ meteorologist confirming that the reported high temperature was inaccurate due to a power-related glitch.I requested that Kalshi review the settlement because their contract rules allow them to revise outcomes before expiration if there is a data error. However, Kalshi refused to reconsider the contract outcome, even though:Their contract rules allow corrections before expiration, but they ignored this provision. They finalized the contract using unverified preliminary data, even though *** explicitly states their data is subject to revision.Other traders have reported similar concerns to the ***** suggesting a pattern of misleading market resolution practices.Desired Resolution:Kalshi should review the contract settlement and issue a correction if necessary.Kalshi should update its market resolution policies to prevent future incidents where incorrect data is used to settle contracts.A refund or financial adjustment should be provided for any losses incurred due to Kalshis refusal to correct a known data error.Business Response

The following market rules which are linked here specifically state the following, "The Underlying for this Contract is the maximum temperature recorded for the specified <date> published in the ************************* (***) Daily Climate Report for ************, ********."
The following market resolved to ***** in accordance with the Daily Climate Report for ************, ******** that was published stating that the high temperature was 36 degrees. Attached below is a screenshot of this report:
Although this may no align with other values posted on the *** website, Kalshi specifically uses the Daily Climate Report for ************, ******** to determine these markets. To be fair to all traders, we will continue to follow our rules when determining weather markets. This determination has been confirmed by the markets team after a review and cannot be changed.
I sincerely apologize that this market did not know your way. I hope this information helps with future trading on weather markets!Customer Answer
Date: 03/14/2025
Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:1. Reliance on Known-Incorrect Data
Power-Related Glitch: A ************************ (***) meteorologist confirmed the 36F reading for ************ on the relevant date was erroneously recorded due to a power-related glitch.
Preliminary vs. Final Data: The *** explicitly states that its Daily Climate Reports are preliminary and subject to revision. Kalshi ignored the final corrected temperature and instead relied on the faulty, unpublished readingcontradicting the very source (***) they claim to follow.
2. Contract *********************************************************************** **************** Kalshis own terms specify that if the underlying data is found to be incorrect before the markets expiration, they have the discretion to review and revise the outcome. However, discretion does not grant them the right to arbitrarily refuse corrective action. Despite compelling evidence from the ***, Kalshi provides no justification for failing to use its discretion and correct the settlement.
Fairness to ******************************** **************** Kalshi claims it is being fair to all traders, yet fairness is profoundly undermined if they knowingly settle contracts using flawed information that the official data source has disavowed. Moreover, their refusal to correct an outcome after learning of the error raises concerns about potential market manipulation:
By finalizing the settlement on data the *** itself identified as erroneous, Kalshi effectively distorted the proper market result.
Such conduct suggests a precedent where the platform might benefit from (or otherwise exploit) data errors, instead of adhering to the transparent and corrected information provided by the ****
Taken together, these points suggest that Kalshis exercise of discretion in this context may not be legitimate. It appears they are simply ignoring valid evidence and finalizing a settlement advantageous to them, or certain parties, despite the availability of corrected data before expiration.
3. Inadequate or Evasive Response
Ignoring the Core Issue: Kalshis response focuses on the presence of a reading in the Daily Climate Report rather than why they relied on a reading that the *** officially deemed inaccurate.
Lack of Justification: They do not explain how ignoring the ***-confirmed error aligns with their obligation to provide accurate, trustworthy settlement data.
4. Implications for Misleading Business Practices
Risk to Consumers: By refusing to revise known inaccuracies, Kalshi could mislead traders into believing all their reported data is definitive, even when the official data source has issued a correction.
Pattern of Concern: This is not an isolated incident; other market participants have voiced similar complaints. Such a pattern raises serious questions about whether Kalshi systematically fails to address erroneous data, ultimately casting doubt on the fairness of its markets.
Why This Complaint Should Remain Open
Kalshi had every opportunity to verify and correct the settlement before the contract expiredan action clearly contemplated by its own market rules. Instead, the company finalized the settlement knowing the *** had flagged this reading as invalid. Rather than provide a transparent explanation or remedy, Kalshi dismissed my concerns outright.
I am requesting a fair resolution that aligns with both Kalshis own rules and the **** official corrections. Until Kalshi can show they acted consistently with these principlesand can justify relying on clearly flawed datathis matter remains unresolved.
Conclusion
For these reasons, I respectfully request that the Better Business Bureau keep this complaint open. Kalshi has neither addressed the core issue of relying on erroneous data nor offered any fair remedy to consumers who suffered losses under this incorrect settlement.
Sincerely,
***** ****

As previously stated, the market was resolved based on the publicly available data at the time of expiration, per our established rules. While we acknowledge that the ************************ later corrected the data, our rules specify resolution is based on information available at expiration, not afterward. The discretion cited in our rules was evaluated and determined not to apply in this case. Our previous correspondence included all necessary information, and we have nothing further to add at this time.Customer Answer

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:I respectfully reject Kalshis latest response. The company again declines to address three undisputed facts:
Sincerely,
-Verified Pre-Expiration Error
A ************************ (***) meteorologist confirmed in writinghours before the Expiration Timethat the 36 F reading was wrong and would be corrected.
Kalshis market-operations team received that confirmation (see LionMail ********************pdf already on file).
-Rule 3.3 Requires Good-Faith Review
Kalshis own terms grant discretion to ensure accuracy when underlying data is demonstrably incorrect before expiration.
Discretion is not a license to ignore an official error notice.
-Regulatory & Manipulation Concerns
CFTC Core Principle 4 obligates a DCM to prevent trade practice abuses. Finalizing on known-false data is, at best, reckless; at worst, it may constitute a manipulative or deceptive device.
*********************** refusal to revisit the outcome benefits positions aligned with the false reading and ***** those aligned with the ***-verified temperaturean outcome indistinguishable from unfair market manipulation.
Why BBB Should Keep the Case Open
Kalshi now states, without explanation, that the discretion was evaluated and determined not to apply. Who evaluated it, on what criteria, and why was the *** error notice discounted?
Simply repeating we followed our rules does not resolve the substantive issue that their rules anticipate and require action when the underlying data is proven wrong before expiration.
Requested Resolution (Unchanged)
Correct the settlement to the ***-verified 40 F.
Refund or credit losses incurred from the erroneous 36 F settlement.
Publish a policy requiring review whenever the data source flags an error pre-expiration.
Kalshis repeated refusal to engage with these points leaves the dispute unresolved. I therefore ask the BBB to keep this complaint open and note for the public record that Kalshi has declined to correct or even substantively address a settlement based on data the *** itself declared erroneous.

We are writing in response to the complaint submitted by a user regarding their experience on *********************** platform. We take all customer concerns seriously and have thoroughly reviewed the matter.
The customer reported an issue with executing a trade, stating that they were unable to sell their position due to a problem with our platform. After investigating their case, we found no evidence of a system-wide malfunction that would have prevented trade execution. Kalshi operates as a regulated exchange, and all trades are executed based on prevailing market conditions at the time of the transaction. While market fluctuations can impact trading outcomes, our system remained fully operational.
Additionally, our customer support team reviewed the users concerns and provided a response in accordance with our policies. While we understand that the customer is dissatisfied with the outcome, we have found no basis for reimbursement in this case. That said, we remain committed to ensuring a seamless trading experience and encourage the customer to reach out if they require further clarification.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.
BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
