    Business Response

    Date: 06/05/2024

This family member of a patient originally reached out to me in May 2022 about an exam for her family member.  She told me that he had not had an eye exam in 30 years.  We made it clear to her in an email that we could do a comprehensive eye exam but could not accurately prescribe a pair of glasses (see screenshot of email correspondence).  We are able to make approximate changes to the prescription of an existing pair of glasses by seeing where someone needs to hold something to read most clearly with the glasses.  i am a board-certified ophthalmologist with many years with eyeglass prescriptions and I am quite confident in my ability to do so.  If a patient really wants new glasses, this is the option I give them but I make it clear that the technology does not exist to do this accurately.

This is also on the 1st page of our terms and conditions that the patient read, signed and returned to us.  It is the 1st one listed on the section of what we cannot do on a home visit.  At the age of 89 if the patient had not had an exam for 30 years, its highly likely that there could be other things going on with the eye (ie. cataract, that comes with age) that just can't be corrected with glasses.  Surgery would be required for that and some patients are not good candidates for the procedure.

I did the best I could for the patient and made it very clear to the relative in 2 different ways that this could not be accurately done but that I could make adjustments to an existing prescription.  As part of the concierge service, the patient, the family have my cell phone and they're welcome to call it whenever they like.  I'm a bit surprised that one year later, the family member chooses to give me a bad review on **** and complain to the BBB.  The patient was fully informed on 2 different occasions, and signed off on it, that this part of the exam couldn't be as accurately done portably as it could in the office.  Thank you and again, I please invite you to call me and discuss.  ***** ********** **
