I had a representative from Truthful Taxes work on my 2022 and 2023 taxes this year, and paid $300 total for the service. As a result of my filing, I seemingly owed $3000+ in taxes. I got paperwork to sign for my 2023 taxes, but not my 2022 taxes. I also noticed that I did not get credit for owning my home in my tax breakdown. I followed up with the representative after requesting she amend my paperwork, and she encouraged me to call the **** Upon calling the **** I was told that my interest paid towards my mortgage was not filed for 2023, and that they had no record at all of my 2022 taxes. I reached out to the representative again, and she sent me a voice note saying that she will check her work and follow-up with me, but she never followed up. I have also attempted to reach out directly to the company twice with no follow-up. Ultimately, I am currently getting my 2023 taxes amended and my 2022 taxes filed at a different company and have to pay for the service again. After my paperwork was reviewed, I was told that I actually do not owe taxes and will be getting a return. Truthful Taxes did NOT file my 2023 taxes correctly and did not file my 2022 taxes at all. I am requesting a refund.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/28/2024

    Good morning ********,

Hope all is well.   This complaint took a bit long to respond to because we had to do our due diligence first before we respond.  First we would like to say sorry for what you experienced as far as communication.  We first would like to note that a refund from our company cannot be issued because we never received payment directly from you.  You paid the tax preparer themselves which is a form of payment we do not receive or accept.  Based on the zelle photos you uploaded it shows payment went directly to the Tax Professionals personal account ******* which does not belong to our company.  You will have to request a refund directly from the preparer unfortunately which is the original payment method.  Also take not all tax professional associated with our company are independent contractors and individually licenses so they assume all responsibility when it comes to filing tax returns.

Last but not least we redid the file based on the paperwork you uploaded to our site and was supplied to us and included the mortgage INT that you supplied and unfortunately I must say if you "Amended" your return and received a 3K refund after adding in your new home THERE WAS A SERIOUS AMOUNT OF FRAUD DONE by the person we went to.  In the history of doing taxes for 15 years we have never seen a 1098 Mortgage INT produce anything more than $500 increase and 75% of the time due to the standard deduction the *** automatically applies most homeowners do not receive $1 extra because the Mortgage Interest paid and real estate taxes are lower than the client standard deductions.

In conclusion the refund must be requested from the preparer themselves because she received the money.  All Tax Professionals are instructed clearly of our payment policy all money collected must pass through TRUTHFUL TAXES.  Unfortunately this was not done so there's no way to issue you a refund.  If you would like to schedule a call with us via zoom to go over your file to show you how your mortgage did not cause any changes to your original filed tax return, please feel free to shoot us an email at ****************************************

Take care be safe and God Bless.

    Customer Answer

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

    [Your Answer Here]

Please communicate to the employee to issue my refund. It is not my job to facilitate that, and it was not my fault that the payment method I was told to use was not standard business. Thank you!

The reason for the increased amount after amending was because my disabled parent lives with me and I was not aware that I could claim him as a dependent. I was not asked about my home situation while getting my paperwork in order.

In order for the BBB to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

    Sincerely,

    *******************************
