On 8/28/24, I hired Sergio and his team for two jobs, initially just linoleum install ($900) and then a few days later to refinish my hardwood floors. He quoted me $4,500 for the hardwood refinishing, plus $250 extra to do the stairs and railings. This dispute is related solely to the work he performed on the hardwood floors and stairs/railings, not the linoleum. His estimate covered the refurbishment of the living room and living quarters flooring (filling/fixing protrusions, buffing, sanding, staining/sealing), plus labor for draining and finishing the stairs. I supplied him with ********* stain and ************ finish.

Sergio started on 9/6/24 and finished on 9/9/24. The weather conditions made it take a bit longer to dry than typical but the living room and master bedroom came out okay. However, in the living room, they left a large spot unfilled, staining and sealing over it. They also left sand marks in the wood and even over sanded in some spots, ruining the wood grain.

Additionally, they put the stain and poly on way too thick in some spots, leaving for an uneven finish. The stairs/railing came out horribly due to this. They also left most of the nail holes at the top of the stairs unfilled and on one of the steps, they didn't sand off the wood filler. For the two bedrooms, they didn't let the stain dry completely and put it on too thick, leaving bubbly spots where the stain pooled up. They then went over it with poly, mixing the two together and making for an awful looking finish.

I texted Sergio about all this and he said that he could come take a look but that he "can't control how it dries" in addition to blaming the product itself. This seems unlikely since they used the same product elsewhere and it did not result in such issues. He has not gotten back to me after several attempts of reaching out.

Given all of this, I am pursuing a refund as a settlement given his failure and poor workmanship to complete the job as described in the contract.
