On Friday, October 28th I stayed at a hotel called the Inn on the Hudson. I knew immediately upon checking in that this was somewhat of a dive hotel but since I was attending a concert in a matter of a couple hours I decided to stay nonetheless. I went to ***********, came back, literally went to bed, woke up and checked out. Nothing of note to report until I checked my credit card statement about a week later and noticed that I had a hundred dollar charge in addition to the room charge. They don't have pay TV, no room service, or anything else that could have resulted in this charge. I called the hotel and was told by a woman who answered the phone that I was charged a hundred dollars because the "cleaning woman smelled smoke in my room". I was blown away by this because I have never smoked in my life and my medical records would verify that. I'm willing to have my Doctor confirm that if necessary. I stayed in the room myself and was literally only there from around 11:00PM until 7:30am. The main reason I am writing and making this complaint is because I could tell from my conversation that this is done routinely and I firmly believe it's a way to make extra money for the owner. The woman who answered the phone said the owner is ************** but would not provide any contact information. I hope this site will warn people about this. They have devices now that can be installed in rooms if someone is legitimately concerned about smoking. If you visit the hotel you will understand why I am making this assumption.
