On May 30, 2025, I went into the shop to get my septum pierced. At the time the piercer seemed like she knew what she was doing, which is good because thats what I pay the service for, to have the professional do the job , not me who doesnt know anything about it. The first night of having the new piercing, I lost a piece of jewelry, but was able to find it and put it back in. It happened again, about a week later. This time I could not find the jewelry, but dark child was closed so I went to cliffs just to get a new ring. Cliffs had a different type of jewelry, so they had to swap the nose ring for me and as soon as the piercer looked at my nose, she was horrified. She said its way too far down. Its through my cartilage, at risk for rejecting through the bottom of my nose, and just all around improperly done. She advised me to immediately take it out. I decided to switch the jewelry and think about it. I went home within 24 hours decided to take it out. I couldnt take it out myself so I went to notorious tattoo to get a second opinion on the botched piercing job, and have them help me take it out. The piercer at notorious also said they screwed it up horrifically, and that I should try and get my money back. So about a week and a half after getting the piercing, on June 10, 2025 my husband calls to politely ask for a refund they give him the runaround. They say because we didnt notice within 24 hours. Its not their problem, they also denied the chance that their piercer screwed it up because she has 20 years experience. Meanwhile, I have arguably two of the biggest shops on the North Shore telling me that they messed me up. After being denied a refund, I wrote them a bad ****** review to which immediately the owner responds to where he lies and says that he offered us store credit which one he did not and two why would I want store credit to come back to have them ruin my nose again? So they did not offer any sort of compensation or resolution.

    Business Response

Please see the following attachments to for this response which includes the form the patron filled out detailing that she requested body modification service, septum piercing. It also details that we at Dark Child ensure that all equipment and jewelry inserted or injected to the body are sterile and safe. The form also clearly indicates on the first page that this service was non-refundable. We also have signs displayed throughout the store including tattoo and piercing stations, services are non-refundable. The back of the form, which she signed and initialed, indicates that she read and understood all of our policies and waiver declination, also please read the full second page of the client form that she initialed. With that being said, the service was properly performed on May 30th, 2025 and our only other communication with this client was on June 10th where the client herself called requesting a refund. She stated that the ball of the jewelry fell out and that we were closed on June 8th, which we were not closed as she stated. We have video confirmation as well as client witness to confirm that we were here and open for business. Our hours are posted on ****** as well as we are available on social media platforms which we respond to promptly, i.e. how we are responding to you right now. She went to our main competitor tattoo shop, Cliffs, we do not defer to our competitor's opinion. Then she said that they told her it was pierced improperly, which I wholly dispute as I have been part owner and head piercer for 29 years and been in business for 29 years. We understand that we cannot please everyone but we steadfastly hold to our store policy which she signed and initialed. The husband never had any form of communication with us at all over the phone or in person which we also have video confirmation of as well.
During our conversation we tried to accommodate her dissatisfaction by offering store credit or to re-****** her at our expense. She insisted on breaking our non-refundable policy and kept requesting her money back. We did our due diligence to accommodate her as we will not break our non-refundable store policy.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 06/12/2025

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

We are not complaining about a rejection or migration of jewelry we are complaining about the initial piercing which was done terribly low and out of the sweet spot of a septum piercing.  We understand the form I filled out when getting the piercing and in it says nothing about refunds for botched piercings. The fact of the matter is it was done completely wrong. That should 100% merit a refund. Also I see a few factual issues with Dark Childs multiple responses and I can prove that.
