I was in need of a new vehicle and since my last experience was a positive one, I decided to go back to my salesperson without my Dad this time and get a new car. I found a car that I liked for a price I was comfortable with. My issue began during the financing part of the transaction. The gentleman working with me offered a loan with interest of over 13%. I found this odd since my credit score is over 760 (excellent). He then "tweaked" the numbers and offered me a payment of some sort and again I asked what the interest rate was and would not disclose that to me. in addition, I was being asked for a deposit even though I was trading in my car for supposedly $3K, that what they offered me. He was incessant in me putting down $ and even told me that it was the reason why the interest was so high. I disagreed. The pressure of putting $ down was so intense that I was asked if I had a credit card. I walked out. Days later, after voicing my concerns with my sales person she reiterated how I needed to put $ down. What does a down payment have to to with the amount of interest you qualify for? I decided not to return and go elsewhere. I went to Huntington Honda, got a newer model of the same car, for the same price with ****% interest on a 60 mo loan, no $ down, just my trade in. In the long run, I won. However, what Riverhead put me through was unfair, uncomfortable and quite frankly, discriminatory. I am a Latino woman and I was there alone and they tried to take advantage of that, thinking that I wasn't smart enough to know better. Shame on them. I will take every opportunity I can to let people know about how minority woman are treated there.
