I purchased a property in a community managed by Kenrick Corporation last June. As is customary, prior to purchase I obtained a paid assessment letter that laid out future special assessments. The letter made no mention of a pending $900 charge for a skylight. I then received a bill for the $900 charge for work I never authorized (nor was there any communication about it until I received a notice of the late charge for a bill I never received). Had I known about this pre-close, I would have had the seller pay this assessment like I did with other pending special assessments.

I reached out to the management company a number of times in an attempt to resolve this matter:

August 3, 2023 - Was advised there there was a $900 charge for a skylight fee. No further clarification was given.
August 4 2023 - In response to my request for more clarification, I was told that my inquiry was forwarded to the Property Manager for the HOA.
August 21 2023 - After no response from the property manager I reached out to the individual myself and was told Our records have the prior owner before you purchased the property approved the skylight replacement, this information should have been passed on to you through them or the real estate agents handling the sale transaction.
September 18, 2023 - After not receiving any response from the realtor I advised that I don't have any correspondence from the realtor relating to a skylight matter. I asked for any further correspondence Kenrick could provide and received no response.
April 23, 2024 - Finally received more clarification on the skylight repair that was not mentioned on the paid assessment letter
    May 17, 2024 - No response
June 13, 2024 - Response saying they were looking into it
    August 8, 2024 - No response
    September 4, 2024 - No response
    September 16, 2024 - No response
This whole time I have been incurring late charges for this item.

    Business Response

We are a service business managing homeowner associations and condominium. We work in conjunction with an elected Board of Directors. There are times when a unit is being purchased that we do not have all of the pertinent information regarding special assessments. We are very sorry that the new owner was surprised by the charge to his account. We are able to waive the late fees but not the special assessment charge.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Businesses need to have some accountability.  They screwed up and through no fault of my own I am out $900 with my only remedy being to bring a lawsuit against the former homeowner that will cost more than $900.  Not to mention, waiving the late fees does not begin to account for the aggravation and time I've spent trying to get this resolved with them.  I remain disappointed in their poor business ethics.

    Regards,
