  Buyer Beware: My Experience with Paul P****** & Helderburg
  I purchased a vehicle marketed on the Helderburg website as a “perfect” restoration. Upon delivery, it was immediately clear the vehicle had been misrepresented—numerous paint flaws, interior damage, worn suspension, and a major mechanical issue: the wrong fuel injection pump had been installed, causing poor and unsafe engine operation.
  I contacted Paul P****** the same day the car arrived and attempted to resolve the matter amicably. Despite sharing documentation and independent assessments, he refused to take responsibility. His only offer was a minor cosmetic repair contribution—far below what was needed.
  This vehicle was advertised and sold through Helderburg, a brand known for high-end restorations, but the condition I received did not reflect that reputation. I’ve since turned the matter over to legal counsel and advise others to proceed with extreme caution.

  To be as brief as I can, I ordered a custom Landrover Defender D90 from Paul at Helderburg in Sharon Springs New York in February of 2021,and was convinced to put half down upon entering contract. A suggested finish date of October of 21 was conveyed but as I saw in contract was not Binding. Initially Paul (owner of Helderburg) seemed excited about the project and was enthusiastic about working out details of build interior and exterior features...Ill push forward to the summer of 2022 with not proof that the parts had been bought except for on Paul's word and no start time in sight. I was patient and naïve. I understand that there were major supply chain issues for MV parts but after being convinced to paying half at the time ($50,000 plus) to secure my spot, I was not satisfied that Paul cared or was concerned with my build. Not that he wasn't accessible but when he agreed to discuss my build he appeared only to engage in the conversation to placate me with out having any knowledge of our original build plans.
  After coming up on the two year mark I kept expressing my dissatisfaction and Paul agreed to sell my slot. A few months went by and I did not see my slot marketed and I inquired. Paul refunded my down payment minus twenty percent ($20,000 plus) which is a stipulation in his contract but he definitely did not take into consideration the unreasonable amount of time to wait for a project that had not been started. I hope my experience will help another party to be more vigilant before they put down the funds for a Helderburg Defender. I have an attorney reviewing the contract and the issues that I had with Helderburg.
