In September 2020 brought in a 1976 ***** (GM pickup truck) to be restored. Paid $30,000 up front, told project would take approximately one year. Was clear did not have unlimited budget and should be updated on additional costs. ***** (owner of the business) didn't respond to texts, calls, or emails for almost a year. Stops by his facility in ********* were unhelpful as it was always closed. Finally, when my wife started incessantly emailing and calling him in 2022, he responded that there were delays due to COVID and that he needed $20,000 to finish the car. In July 2023, we met with ***** and explained again we were over-budget, and at that point need to finish the car and sell it to recoup some of the money we had put into it. He said the interior needed to be replaced and another $30,000 could cover interiors, radio, and anything left to finish. In September 2023 said car would done "around January 2024". On April 8, 2024 stopped by his repair facility (as he'd once again stopped responding to calls, texts or emails). He wasn't there, but someone showed us the car, which has no interior seats and isn't drivable. He later called and told us he's "out of pocket a lot of money" and needs $13,000 ASAP to finish the car. I reminded him in July 2023 we agreed there was no more money, and that the car was to be done within that last $30,000. We are now at a standstill,$80,000.00 out of pocket for a car that's not driveable. His invoices have been handwritten with total sums in excess of what we paid, and no detail on cost for parts or labor. We need help getting this resolved. From a review posted in 2022 seems this is not the first time he's cheated someone.
