      My daughter was awarded a scholarship through OCC and they have not awarded it or applied it to her bill. They are threatening to lock her out of her dorm if the remaining balance is not paid and we have been trying to get this fixed since the start of school in the end of August. My daughter has been calling the OCC Advantage scholarship contact for over a week to attempt to fix this. We need contact from the school to settle this issue and allow her to continue her education without this type of stress.

      To the Better Business Bureau,

      We are in receipt of the complaint that was submitted on 11/2/2022 with an assigned ID# of ******** and wanted to respond accordingly. 

      Attached is a copy of ****** *****’s bill.  The scholarship that her mother ******* ***** referenced was an “OCC Advantage” scholarship which is a “last dollar scholarship” that covers any tuition that is not covered by other financial aid.  In this case ****** received a Federal **** Grant of $2,323 and NYS TAP of $1,547.  Where this financial aid exceeded the tuition costs of $2,595 there is no additional scholarship funding available.  This has been relayed to ****** and her mother ********

       

      ****** lives in the Residence Halls so in addition to the tuition and fee charges, she is also responsible for Room and Board which you will see on the attached statement.  ****** needs to go to our Financial Aid Service Center to apply for Federal loans and discuss plans to pay her outstanding bill of $4,765.93 for the Fall semester.  We have no intention of locking her out of her dorm as Crystal references but are restricting her card access until she meets with Financial Aid to get her bill straightened out.  Restricting her card access does not restrict her from being able to have access to her room. 

      I hope this helps to clarify things as Onondaga Community College has not done anything wrong or inappropriate.  ****** has a financial responsibility for her housing and meals and she also acknowledged the attached sample copy of our “Financial Responsibility Agreement” that she is financially responsible for all charges.
