I have been a customer using propane and fuel oil for several years. In early March 2024, I canceled all services because of this company's price gouging. I was charged over $5.00 for a gallon of fuel and $6.60 for a gallon of propane. My new supplier charges $3.10 for fuel and $2.55 for propane. When I canceled the service I was told to use the propane and let them know when the tank was empty and they would pick it up. However, after 6 months they filled the tank again. I called and told them that I wanted the tank picked up and refunded for the propane. The tank had been disconnected all they had to do was pick it up. I was charged $ 297,00 for the pickup, and my refund of almost $ 500.00 has never been issued. Today I received another bill of $ 57.00, I have no idea what this bill is for. I will file a complaint to get this issue taken care of.

I am on day 10 of no working heat in my home bc John Ray and Sons refused to fill my oil tank bc the tech saw a rust spot and tiny leak. I was told that a sales person would call me that day and never did. I packed up my 3 kids and we stayed elsewhere, I called at 7am the next day and a sales person agreed to meet me at my house. After he gave me a quote of $4,000 for a new oil tank I said no thank you, I’ll buy one at **** ***** for 1k. He gave me Matt, the service managers number ask suggested I call and ask about a temporary barrel for oil until I got the new tank. Matt was rude and condescending, told me I should apply for HEAP and refused me a temp barrel bc “how does he know I’ll actually get a new tank”. I told him I felt I was being punished for not buying from them and he finally agreed to supply a barrel if I got as signed contract from whoever was installing it. At the time I didn’t know who was so I again stayed somewhere else. Next day bought an oil tank and the following day it was installed (by professionals) I called John Ray for an oil delivery and they said one of their techs had to come out to inspect since they didn’t install it but couldn’t until the next day. Same kid comes that refused to give me oil initially and inspects and puts in some oil. About an hour later my furnace shuts down again. I call them and Matt tells me he will not send anyone back bc the roads were too bad and I’d have to wait until the next day. Next day same kid and his supervisor come (turns out he was an apprentice) tell me nothing is wrong with my furnace and there must be a frozen pipe in the system. Well after 6 days of no heat I wasn’t surprised!!! They tell me they don’t know where it is and I should call a plumber. They leave with me with no heat, no solutions, and i haven’t heard from them since. The plumber can’t find my frozen pipe and I’m living with space heaters and luckily a propane fireplace. It’s been an absolute nightmare! Worst company!!!!

We have trusted and used propane services by John Ray for over 15 years. I wish that I could give a rating of zero stars. After our propane rates continued to climb, month after month, year after year, we struggled to afford to pay our propane bill, in spite of making a good living. We had always assumed the price of propane must be rising and our rates were going up accordingly. We were eventually paying well over $6 per gallon and using at least 600 gallons per year. After asking around our community what others were paying for propane from various companies, we learned that we have been paying TRIPLE the going rate for propane. This was incredibly upsetting to learn. I am embarrassed that we have continued to do business with this company for so long. We found a local company with far more reasonable rates and called to have our John Ray equipment picked up, at which time we learn that they charge a $275 "restocking fee". $275!!!!! That is close to the equivalent of 2 months of propane from our new provider. DO NOT use John Ray for propane - you could use just about anyone else and be better off. The prices they charge and the way they treat loyal customers should seriously be criminally investigated. It is absolutely nauseating. We are so disappointed in this company.
