We boarded our 3-year old rescue dog for 2 nights at *********** ("P&P") in July of 2023. Upon picking him up we saw that something was not right. P&P reassured us that he was fine, just tired as a "first time" client. They encouraged me to give him a couple of days to rest up. That would have been deadly advice. We stopped to get him a treat and water approx 10 min away. While waiting outside the shop, a stranger approached my kids asking whether our dog was ok, whether someone had tranquilized(!) him, etc. A man who'd never seen my dog before knew that something was very wrong, though the "professionals" at P&P had reassured me not 15 min earlier that he was fine.He refused the treat and barely drank. I called P&P imploring them to let me know what might have happened, so we could help him. They noted again that he seemed fine, but that they barely knew him (he'd been there 2 days / nights - but recall the stranger by the shop knew instantly that something was very wrong!) and suggested I use my judgment as to whether to seek medical care.We took him to the *** arriving less than an 1.5 hrs after picking him up from P&P. The ** could not get a pulse on him for hrs, his body temp had plummeted (P&P gave him a BATH shortly before we picked him up - they bathed our freezing, dying dog), his gums were pale and his neurological condition was worsening. He was diagnosed w/ anaphylaxis (having no known history of this condition, and fortunately no reactions since). We will never know what triggered this reaction. It might not have been the direct fault of P&P. It is, however, a shocking breach that P&P did not recognize a dog having a deadly anaphylactic reaction while in their care. Do they need fewer dogs on their watch? Better training? Keeping dogs safe and recognizing when something is so wrong, is the central purpose/value of a boarding facility. I cannot discourage you enough from subjecting your beloved pet to the uncertainty of their "care."
