Hired Jeremy in May 2024 to replace wooden deck and build a new PVC deck. Estimate was $22K) Was told the deck would take 3 weeks.I fired him September 29th with a very unfinished deck. I had family visiting in August and told him I needed the deck done by then. He assured me that it would be done. There were no deck boards down at all at that time. Jeremy constantly requested more money. I would give him cash and/or ***** him money ($3385 for miscellaneous materials) and ask for receipts and an accounting of how my money was being used against the balance. Despite his assurances that he’d “do it tonight”, he never provided receipts or a running total. I overpaid him $25,320 for labor between cash and ***** (against an estimate of $24,900: $22K deck, $2K floor, $900 door), so he owes me $420. Once he produces receipts, we can calculate how much more I overpaid. I hired another contractor to “complete” the deck. The 3 companies that I brought in for estimates all criticized the same areas of workmanship, including poorly cut boards, bad mitered corners, unevenly spaced posts, not enough overhang left for the deck boards, and stair risers that were not to code. As a result, I have incurred another $9200 in labor, plus $4137.92 in materials to replace the unusable Timbertech and lumber. I am requesting a refund of $12,000, far below the additional expenses I incurred due to his lack of professionalism. Jeremy never finished the floors either. Some of the tiles have gaps before the quarter round. Some corner round was not installed. None of the nails in the quarter round were filled. A partial row of planks in the kitchen needs to be redone as they are heaved in the middle and sticking up at the far end. The transitions between rooms are not done. There are tiles missing under the washer and dryer where he ran out of materials. I have had to contract with someone else to finish the flooring job.
