4/29/23 I purchased a **** ******** **** from this dealership. During the test drive, the check engine light came on and a warning message that the auxiliary battery needed replaced. I researched quickly to see that it was a cheap and easy fix, but had the salesperson check the car for other error codes. He said there are no current codes or codes in the memory and assured me that he "knows there is nothing wrong with the car". I agreed to purchase. After I fixed the aux. battery, the engine light was still on.
I had the codes read again and found a crankshaft position sensor error. I had to take the car to a mechanic to have that replaced. Then, the mechanic found that there were also codes for timing chains and PCV valve. These will be major repairs.
I contacted the dealer and the financing company so they are aware of the problems. The dealer called me back and initially offered to provide me with an extended vehicle warranty so the warranty company can cover the repair costs. I asked the dealer if that's how they conduct business by letting the warranty company pay the bill for them clearing out the error codes. He said no and that he was just trying to come to a resolution. I asked him for a refund of my down-payment since that will be roughly the cost of the repairs and he told me No and that I was just being greedy. He then said he was willing to offer me a "few hundred dollars" and if pursue this legally, he will just provide documentation that it was a used car being sold "as-is." I rejected both offers and notified the financing company. If no resolution is provided, I've already notified the dealer that legal actions will be taken.

My problem is not so much that there are problems with the car. My complaint is that the vehicle was sold deceptively. By clearing out the codes, NO ONE would have been able to determine that there was a problem with the vehicle. After reading other complaints, this appears to be a pattern for the dealership.
