August 21, 2023 I was returning from out of town, and upon arriving at home, I realized my vehicle was missing out of my driveway. After making a few phone calls to the recovery company that the city police use in my area, I was informed that the vehicle was abandoned on the side of the road and that TNR towing and recovery had taken over access to the vehicle and towed it to their facility. Upon speaking with the owner he agreed to give me a few days to get the title in order and that I would pay the initial towing fee of $180 I explain to him that I work 13 hour night shifts that it would be very hard for me to get up there that day or the next but I would have it done by the end of the week. He was ok with it. He wanted title To prove I owned it. I called them again on Wednesday to gain access to the vehicle to get vin to get title rthat day and to get it towed. They told me that I was getting charged daily for the vehicle sitting there which that point it went up to $450 in total . I explain to them that I had to get the title to prove that I owned it and I needed the Vin number to do so. They have literally avoided contact with me up until Friday which is today the gentleman on the phone explain to me they had a wedding to go to, but he wouldn’t be able to get the Vin number to me till mid next week and then I would be liable to pay the fees up to that point. In the conversation of the few times we spoke, he offered to take the vehicle off my hands if I just dropped off the title and would allow me to get my personal items from the vehicle. How is this far? The car was stolen. Should I file a report that it was stolen? He has changed his story a few times and also told my brother a different amount on 2 occasions. They also took 2 days to get a final price of which adds up to $100 a day for storage.

the answer to this complaint is we have a towing contract with the city here which states we have to prove ownership of a car before it can be released ,her bill is broke down to fees that we charge for various things as towing charges cars are charged $25 per day as storage plus tax as of sept 7,2023 she owes us $743.88 now add in another 25.00 per day as long as it is impounded, the city police had no knowledge of owner as one was not found as what it says on paperwork, all she needs to do is prove ownership and pay the bill up to date to release her vehicle.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
They refused to give me the vin number for me to get the title copied from bmv within 2 days of them gaining possession of my vehicle. At that time I was told the bill they were unsure of because the owner was gone…he was the one who towed it and his daughter was getting married so he was going to be gone all week and almost 5 days later was told the fee was almost $500. So if the fee was $25 a day why wasn’t I given that flat price from day one and given the vin number? and not able to get my vin number to get a title from the bmv? Not having the title you continue to accumulate fees? From a car that was stolen from my driveway. I had no problem paying the $180 as I told the company within 2 hours of them towing the car to their facility but you guys made it impossible for me to prove it was my car with a title that I needed the vin number to go to the bmv and get a replacement as the original was turned digital years ago. So other than looking at the old registration in my glove box that clearly has my name on it you ignored me and gave me the run around all week and made the fees even higher so I would come get the car. If I was given the vin and got the title and the car sat for 3 days …that’s still only $255 but your workers told me almost $500. You all should be ashamed of yourselves and my car should rightfully after your games and attempted scam to keep my car, be returned to my driveway for the hassle and dishonesty. So I’m turn because you had a wedding and obviously want the vehicle you made my bill illegally higher to detour me from wanted to pay the fee and avoided me for almost a week and giving me no information other than the tow would be $180.
