On January 11th ****, my son's car broke down- it would not start. We had the car towed to State Street Tire that evening. On January 12th in the AM, I spoke with State Street Tire and let them know that the car was towed there and would not start. On January 13th, State Street Tire called me to tell me that the issue was the starter and it would need repaired. State Street Tire performed this repair on January 13th ****. I paid for the part and labor in the amount of $447.97 and the car was picked up that same day. The following day January 14th, the car would not start again. On January 15th, I called State Street Tire and asked if they could tow the car back to their shop. I spoke with ****** and he informed me that they do not have towing service. He told me to try jumping car the car first to see if the battery was dead. After I hung up with ******, my son did attempt to jump the car as suggested by ******, it started but then died shortly thereafter. We then had the car re-diagnosed at an alternate shop- ****************** in *********. Upon diagnosis, that shop identified that the reason the car would not stay running was due to the starter being improperly installed. The owner of that shop took photographs of the wrongly installed starter and told me that because the starter was incorrectly installed, that the wires had been damaged. We proceeded to have the other shop perform the necessary repairs. On Feb 1st ****, I presented the photos and write up from the other shop regarding the improper installation of the starter performed by *** at State Street Tire to ******. I was met with complete resistance from ****** as he refused to take any accountability for their tech's mistake. State Street Tire refused to refund my money and refused to resolve the issue. All I am asking for is my money back for a service that was not done correctly and that resulted in me paying additional money to fix.

We warranty our work! If she would have brought it to us we would have fixed the car and if it was indeed our fault, we wouldn't have charged her anything. She took it to a muffler shop and after her son worked on her car and then who knows what happened to her car, I have that starter sitting on my desk right now same part number same manufacturer there is no way for the fusible link to be installed on the ground lug of the starter as ************* said, cause there is no ground lug on this starter. The starter body is the ground it doesn't need a extra wire to be installed to ground it, that's why we told her what the OTHER shop was saying was wrong. We have been in business for over 20 years, do we make mistakes, of course we do. What makes us different is how we handle our mistakes; we fix the problem at no charge and our work is guaranteed 3 years or ****** miles across the country. Only condition is you have to come back in order for us to make it right, she chose not to, that's on her. Everything she said to ****** is on video recording there is cameras in the office, ****** pleaded with her to bring it back so we could look at it. Again, she chose not to. Good news is her starter is still warranted for 3 years and ****** miles across the nation. Oh and $339 for a fusblelink repair is incredibly high, I mean that's expensive considering the fusible link wire comes in spools and cost $15.71 for 10 feet and you would have needed 2 feet at the most. The fusible link blew because someone hooked the battery jump pack on backwards or hit the wrench to a ground or while your son jumped the battery, not from being installed wrong cause that's impossible, remember no ground lug on the starter. Battery being dead and needing replaced isn't no big surprise, cause how much did the bad starter draw every time you tried to start it before the starter was replaced? Yea that's why we charged your battery and hoped it would still be good instead of just selling you something we wasn't convinced you needed. Anyways what she is claiming doesn't make sense because, well it's impossible to happen the way the *********** claims.
As far as ****** goes, come on he is the nicest quietest guy in the world, he would jump thru fire if it would make a customer happy. Anyone can go in there and talk to him and see he is a great guy and also a MASTER CERTIFIED tech that knows more about cars especially electrical than most people around. She is mad because instead of giving us the chance to see if we made a mistake she chose to go to a MUFFLER shop for her electrical work and was told the wrong information and overcharged for a simple repair.

I am rejecting this response because:

I had the car inspected by a reputable third party auto shop who does more than just muffler work. After being told that the State Street Tire installed the starter incorrectly by the third party, unbiased auto shop, of course I would not want to return to have my car repaired there. The car is now ************* after having the starter installed correctly. I do not wish to argue details, because honestly, they do not matter. The bottom line is that I have documentation proving that whoever installed the starter did so incorrectly- which was State Street Tire. I am simply asking for a refund for the work that I paid for that was done incorrectly.

Again, what she is stating is not possible, thre is no ground lug on the starter, I will not give her a full refund, she is not getting a free starter from me. She should have given us the opportunity to resolve the issue. When you buy something like car repair and if fails you can not just go somewhere else and have it fixed and expect a full refund, that's not how the real world works. She should have brought the car back to us and gave us the chance to make it right if it was indeed our fault. After 20 years of being in business and thousands of happy satisfied customers I would definitely consider us a reputable business. I have contacted the parts store where the starter was purchased and they say if she brings in the starter they will refund the price of the starter.

I am rejecting this response because:

I am not disputing the actual starter- I am dissatisfied with the labor. I would settle for reimbursement of the labor that was performed incorrectly. This business' costly error could have cost me more damages to my vehicle. I have been more than reasonable requesting to settle this matter outside of court. This owner just needs to take ownership of his tech's mistake and make it right.
