Recently, I had a very painful procedure without anesthesia at Dayton Gastro. Despite following all previous directions from the facility, upon my arrival at Dayton Gastro, the “gatekeepers” (receptionist and nurses?) at the facility claimed that I needed to have a relative in the waiting room. I explained that my closest relative is in the military stationed miles away. The “gatekeepers” felt that I needed to have a relative with me in case I experienced complications from the procedure. Additionally, the gatekeepers claimed the Center did not want to be sued for giving a patient anesthesia and the patient drove home. I explained that I had paid a medical transport company for a roundtrip to the Dayton Gastro (Beavercreek) facility from my home. The driver was trained in emergency medical care. No amount of negotiating with the gatekeepers could convince them that I did not need to have a bona fide relative drive me home after the procedure. Because I had invested so much time and effort in preparing for the procedure, I agreed to forgo anesthesia. Needless to say, I endured excruciating pain and was still experiencing abdominal pain from the procedure a few days later. The doctor stated since I was in such physical distress that he was not able to fully perform the procedure and I should return for an alternate procedure in three months.
I think it was unconscionable for the staff to deny me the procedure with anesthesia because I did not have a relative in the waiting room. There are a lot of military families in the Dayton, OH area who do not have family members to transport them to and from medical appointments.
Because of my experience with: Poor customer service; the unnecessary transport fee I paid to the medical transport company; and the additional cost I will likely have to pay for another procedure, I would not recommend any person seek services at Dayton Gastro.
