The BMV gave me the incorrect plates. And I can’t find my original title. Kalyn was pretty rude saying that since I was going to contact the BBB they won’t help me out with it. I had to pay 18$ for a new title. I also had to pay for new plates. They refused to own mistake

    Business Response

    Date: 10/02/2023

First of all, I want to apologize for my delayed response. I had much more pressing things to attend to and this matter got buried. My name is Leslie ********, I am the Harrison County Clerk of Courts and the Deputy Registrar in Harrison County for the State of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. By appointing me as the Deputy Registrar I am able to combine my Title Office and the BMV, which is very convenient for the public to obtain their titles and plates in our "One-Stop-Shop".
I was not present when Mr. ***** came into our office, so I had my employee, Kalyn write a statement (copy attached) as to what transpired.
Mr. ***** did not have his receipt for the transaction completed 1 1/2 years ago. Mr. ***** drove his vehicle for 1 1/2 years without incident. Mr. ***** needed to renew the plate that he was issued 1 h years ago due to the expiration date. My office needed Mr. ******* title to the vehicle in order to plate it correctly. Mr. ***** stated that he lost his title, so my employee offered to print him a replacement. Mr. ***** had full use of his vehicle for that period of time and there was no proof that my office was responsible for the mistake on the plates or the loss of his title.
If you require any further information, please let me know.

RE: Kalyn's statement re: ******* ***** complaint to BBB
Mr ***** called in and stated to me that he has been driving on someone else's plates for the last 1-1 h years. He would like us to replace it and fix the problem since it was done in our office, or he will call the BBB and complain. I asked him why he waited so long to get a corrected plate and he stated that he assumed we knew what we were doing at the BMV and assumed everything was correct when he walked out. I told him we can't make a decision until he stops in with his receipt and paperwork.
He came to our office a few days later on 9/01/2023 and handed me a registration with a different name, vin number and vehicle information. It did not pertain to Mr. ***** or the vehicle in question. I told him the only thing I can do is issue a new plate but I would need his title. He lost the title so I offered to print a new one in order to get the plate issue taken care of. He demanded we pay for it all. I told him he had no proof that we made the mistake and he would have to take care of the costs. I also stated that he has been threatening to call the BBB since our phone conversation the other day and we wouldn't bend over backwards for someone that keeps threatening us. I asked ****** in private if we needed to pay for any of this and she agreed that 1) He would have had to renew a plate anyway since it was expired, and 2) It was not our fault that he lost his title. He was pleasant throughout the rest of the transactions that day. I printed the title, issued a new plate and renewed his drivers license. I wished him a good weekend and he seemed satisfied when he left.
