On 10/7/22, I went to Harpers point for an eye exam, contact, glasses and reading over contact prescription. I brought in the contacts and two pairs of glasses I currently wear. I saw a person who did most of the evaluation and then met with an intern who tested my vision. The doctor came in and said he was going to keep my prescription the same as it had been and dismissed me. As I was walking to the front desk, he told one of the clerks that he hadn't checked me out, but I was all set. He left the building out of the front door in what appeared to be a hurry. He was distracted.
I met with Marcie who told me the company would price match contacts and had a database to compare prices. She didn't say anything after that, so I said ******. After checking their price, she charged me for the contacts without giving me credit for my insurance. She did not have the glasses over contacts script and seemed quite flustered throughout the entire transaction. She also charged a $35 co-pay even though my insurance covers the exam. She said it was for medical because it was a comprehensive exam, I was never charged that before.
I sent an email Sunday looking for the rx I was owed. Instead of that, I was sent an invoice for $130. I was told that it was for the contact exam which is covered as shown by the attached policy. Also, a new contact Rx. I had already ordered my contacts based on the Rx given after the exam, This has never happened before.
I do not believe I owe the $130. My insurance covers the contact exam. If the doctor could not get my Rx corrrect, he was not giving me a thorough exam. I was not told of this in advance and it is not part of my insurance fees. No one I know has been charged this fee. In over 50 years of wearing contacts, I have not been charged. This was not disclosed up front. I did not ask for it. I think this is bait and switch and ******ing a retired person on a fixed income. I want the charge removed from my account.
