We hired Doogies Pest Management to help us with a mouse infestation in our home. I was pressured into paying for the entire service up front despite the fact that $1500 of the cost was not supposed to be paid until after the service was complete.
The proposal included:
Mice Treatment / Cleaning, sanitizing, and caulking
wherever possible to provide treatment and presentative
services.
removal of all unwanted debris in basement and trash (mice feces)
Mice Treatment and preventative Services (Interior along basement and 1st floor)
Doogie’s Inspectors conduct a free or reasonable, thorough inspection of your home, impacting all areas of your home as well as the exterior of all buildings and grounds
Document all pests present on the property and any damage already caused by identified pests
Thorough pest treatment to prevent future infestations/ damage, providing ongoing monitoring for 1 year until no signs of the pest are present for 2 consecutive months
Of all of the things in the proposal most were not completed, and the ongoing monitoring will not happen because we don't want to continue working with Doogies
Specifically:
Only some of the junk was removed and a bunch of non junk items were thrown away
Caulking was done in only 1 room of the house in a nonfunctional manner
A thorough inspection was not done, several rooms were ignored and the grounds were ignored
Most of the first floor was ignored and no preventative measures were implemented in the basement
Documentation was not done, or, if it was done was not provided to us.
The companies justification for why they shouldn't refund is that there was more junk than they expected (despite coming and looking at the basement before writing up the proposal), and it was a hard job, they did not explain why they didn't complete the pest management portion of the job. Instead deflecting onto perceived issues with mine and my partners gender.Business Response

Good morning **** ******. We provided a service to your home with a cleaning crew of 5 people. We cleaned your home from top to bottom. We Sanitized every area of the house. Initially, you had 2 appliances you wanted removed from your basement and discarded. The before pictures/ videos would reflect the level of cleaning necessary to get to the actual pest control service. We all had on body cameras at all times. There were Snakes in your home which we didn't anticipate never the less, from the floor to the ceiling, we cleaned, and sanitize. This was no ordinary situation. We used our air scrubber, electrostatic machine, and air freshener to create a safe environment for you and us. We used steam on the couch, toilet, and floors because there was at least 20 years of buildup of debris on the floor alone. The kitchen particular was covered in trash, snake skin, mice feces, and dead mice. Alone the baseboard was a gap so big, anything from the outside could enter. The house was in a situation where the health department would surely have closed you down. We always collaborate with cleaning prifessionals because they know cleaning but this was no ordinary situation.
The work went far past our writtened agreement. There was an entire uhaul truck which was full to capacity with debris, furniture, and trash. We utilized a broom and garbage bags at the permission of your wife. We left that broom, purchased you a new broom similar to your broom, garbage bags, and a brand new mop. We use sticky traps to catch mice because, it catches more than one at a time. I'm sorry that you believe it's inhumane. It's simply our way.
We didn't break anything. I reached out to ask what you what you thought of the work and we got no answer. However your wife shared that she didnt know your floora could look so nice. In fact, she thanked us and shared we did a good job. In fact, she shared that you were upset because one of our guys kept referring to you all as Sir. I apologize for his lack of LBGTQ knowledge. He doesnt mean any harm. He see what he believe to be two men. His motive isn't malice, he just doesnt understand. I think it has less to do with the house and more to do with your disappointment with being addressed as sir. The first day you were good.
The house is clean and Sanitized now but certainly not safe from the prospective I'm seeing it. Give me a few days to speak with my attorney and, forward youll be able to go directly to him. I'm by no means considering returning a payment far less than the work which was done. The electrical doesn't work, the floors are not safe, and the ceiling in at least one large space is coming in. There was way too much clutter to see the hazard until after the clean-up. The health department would probably condemn the house.
I thank you for the opportunity. I'm sorry you were not satisfied. However, I believe your wife that you were upset because you were referred to as sir many times and again, my apology. We should probably have the house inspected to determine if it's safe and whether we should've been there. My best regards!
Sincerely,
Candace T***** ***Business Response

We didn't expect to have to kill Snakes in a person's home. Il've never gone to a home in which I had never seen the floors because the debris was so high. One would assume that a person purchased a house and attempted to fix it up. I didnt know anyone was actually living there. You were there the first day which was 10 hours of the clean-up and clean out. 2 full van loads of debris you watched being unloaded. On day 2, 6 hours later we were done. I look forward to seeing you in court. We weren't compensated for Snakes.
Candace T****The house is clean and Sanitized now but certainly not safe from the prospective I'm seeing it. We couldve easily fallen through the floors. I started so I was determine to finish
We wear body Cameras for a reason. Im seeking legal advice yo determine if I can telease the footage and audios. l'm by no means considering returning a payment far less than the work which was done. You should owe us for our 16 hours plus. Audios don't lie but people do. Videos don't lie but, certainly, we will see each other in court.

Additionally, Im looking into *** ******* **** who was the previous owner of the property who was 91, and died in 2021 yet, he sold it to you in 2023. You yold me you purchased it 2 years ago. However, my legal rep is looking inyo it all. Why would he sell you the house and leave his personal things way more valuable than the house?
Sincerely

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.1: Most of their response is literally copy pasted from previous communication I have with them.
2: They continue to not even acknowledge that the issue with their work stems from them not dealing with the current mouse infestation in any meaningful way, and not implementing anything to prevent future mouse infestations (the actual reason we hired them)
3: In every response we have gotten from they have deflected from the main issue, insisted that the "cleaning" was above and beyond the contract and added lies about the state of the home (There are no points in the floor anywhere that they could fall through, *** ****** * **** did not die in 2021, there were snakeskins found, but they did not have to kill snakes. The snakeskins are most likely from milk snakes, a species that is harmless to people, and eat mice)
4: No resolution of the issue has been proposed.

Good morning and thank you for the response. I am sympathetic to the concerns of all of our customers. We pride ourselves on our reputation. Our customers are like family to us. I know it was alot shared on both sides. However, we can follow-up as offered in the proposal. We are also willing to return the $200 follow-up fee if preferred. Additionally, there are some foundational issues which may need to be addressed to keep pest completely out. Let us know what we can do to come to a reasonable resolution.
Sincerely,
Candace T. (DPM)

I apologize that I was unable to respond in a timely manner, but the complaint with Doogies was not resolved and their offer of a 200 dollar refund was frankly insulting, the payment was a 2500 dollar down payment, and then 1500 additionally upon completion of service. Service was not completed and despite the original business proposal stating a full inspection there was not one done, they say there are foundational issues that prevent control of pests but don't state what those foundational issues are and none of them were brought up during or after the inspection. If doogies did not believe they could complete the job they should have stated that at any point, instead they half assed it and walked away with the full payment.

We can agree to disagree. Our folloq-up treatment was quoted for a follow-up which is simply a walk through to see if we need to remove any traps which may have mice on them. We gave more than 16 hours in 2 days. Two days was way beyond what we were suppose to do. I should've sued for defamation. We went far beyond our scope of service. We turned what would've been an 8 hour job 2 months prior to our work and assuming the work was the same as when we gave a bid. However, despite the work being a 2 day job instead of a 1 day job, we we continued until the job was complete. The customer chose not to accept the follow-up which had nothing to do with the job. His issue according to his partner, my team were referring to them as him and his because they were ignorant to anything but male and female. I thought I apologized and address that issue. I'm done. There's no reasonable solution. I'm not addressing this again unless it's in court. I'm done!Customer Answer
