After checking repeatedly, was told on 4/15 that an extension was being filed for our taxes. On 5/28 we received notice from IRS with Penalty and Interest charge for late filing, so extension had never been filed. Contacted K. Pakelitis office, was told to send image of notice, which we did that day. Followed up with 3 emails, with no response, before being assured on 6/6 that it would be handled. After not hearing anything, sent 3 additional emails, again with no response. On 7/19, sent certified letter, which was signed for on 7/25. Still no response from company. On 7/29, received another notice from IRS with additional Penalty and interest since the earlier notice had not been paid. To avoid further action from the IRS, we paid the amount due of $62.55.
Since this entire situation was caused by the failure of Pakelitis to properly file our taxes in a timely manner, and due to their failure to follow through on promises to rectify and to respond to our inquiries, we feel they are responsible to reimburse us for the IRS penalty, as well as the amount paid for completing tax forms.

    Business Response

    Date: 08/14/2024

This is a very unfortunate situation of miscommunication with a long-time client of ours. On June 6th our office responded that "There is no need to submit a
payment at this time.  We will contact the IRS on your behalf to get
this issue resolved.  You may receive additional letters from the IRS as
they are auto-generated.  It will take some time for the IRS to process
our request, so please be patient and send us any letters that you do
receive so that we can keep track of what is going on.  Let me know if you
have any questions in the meantime." Linda responded the next day with "Thank you. I am confident the matter will now be
properly handled."  As our correspondence clearly indicated it would take some time and to send us all documentation we expected that we would receive the IRS' next auto-generated bill and at a similar time our response to the IRS would be in the stages of being processed. By Ms. ****** paying that bill she therefore agreed to it and negated our correspondence, which was in response to the fact that an extension had been filed and the 2210 was miscalculated.

A conversation was had with Ms. ****** last week regarding this situation and we both were able to see where the miscommunication occurred. In her communication attempts via email and USPS mail she was looking for a paper trail, but never called the office to discuss it in person. Our office would have been able to reassure her and send her an appropriate follow up email for her paper trail. We are here to help and will gladly try to get the IRS to move forward with the original corrections we submitted.

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response.  If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

It is truly unfortunate that a lack of communication and follow up created such a trying and stressful situation.

Although the outcome is not the best, as long as we no longer need to worry about issues with the IRS, it appears the matter is settled.

    Regards,
