We went with a local contractor to help us renovate our house. For a year and a half, Grothaus Renovations held our house hostage with missed deadlines, poor work, and months without completing any work. They would start a project and three months would pass without any work done or communication on next steps. We would always initiate the communication by constant texting and reminding of what needed to be done. It was beyond frustrating to have to remind our contractor what needed to be completed and then left to wonder if they were ever even coming back after starting a project, leaving all their supplies, and the dust/trash that would accumulate. We purchased thousands of dollars worth of materials only to sit. This cost along with the bills they gave us were paid immediately without question or hesitation. This was in good faith trusting these guys to get the job done but found out after the fact they were focused on other projects, which was completely fine. The problem was the multiple projects that were started and left unfinished. For a year and a half, we were never able to live a normal life in a house we just purchased. We then had them do our kitchen floors, which between material and labor, was a very high cost. They cut corners and put our tile floor over a couple layers of linoleum. This caused our floor to be elevated to a height that was completely unreasonable. We had another contractor come out to see how we would get a transition piece that would fit due to an elevated height between the installed tile floor and living room hardwood floor. They relayed there was no transition piece that would fit and Grothaus Renovations didn't do the job correctly. After 3 more months of no work and no communication, we decided to cut ties with them. They sent us a bill for $1,400 although work was not completed and our floor would need to be completely redone. Do not do business with this company. They're lazy, cut corners, and are the worst communicators.
