      I signed a lease and canceled before the move-in date. I was specifically told I could cancel the lease with no fees attached if I did not move in. On Thursday I initiated to cancel my lease. Leaving Thursday there was no action required, and I was to return the keys.
      I was directly lied to about the details of the cancelation, when I came by to return the keys the main manager sprung this new information on me that I would have costs incurred even though I was assured 2 business days prior. She laughed in my face (no exaggeration) when I was in disbelief and flustered.
      It's frustrating and damaging being gaslit through this entire process. I was operating off of what Wilcox communities told me in good faith. This has been a learning experience to always get the words in writing.
      Beware of how this company does business you may find yourself in a similar situation, just read reviews left by others....

      This Tenant's complaint has been reviewed. We would like to respond by stating when this Tenant accepted the keys to the apartment, they accepted the lease terms verbally and in writing, as well. Wilcox Communities reconfirmed to the Tenant that they were legally responsible for the lease at that time. The Tenant had keys and access to the apartment for 3 days. After discussions of the Tenant's desire to terminate the lease, Wilcox Communities accommodated their request fairly and with their agreement to pay for the termination of the lease and 3 days that the Tenant had keys and apartment access. The Tenant's account balance due was adjusted to reflect the change of our concessions in our resident portal. The portal is still reflecting the Tenant's unpaid balance at this time.

      Wilcox has a bad habit of withholding deposits so they can line their pockets with your money for random excuses. I recently left the Residences at Woodside at ********** ****. They said the apartment was clean but there was an (odor). They now want $800 to seal and paint thaw apartment. I will move this to court soon and let a judge decide. Be careful with these people, they are very devious and greedy!
