Truthfully one of the most heartbreaking experiences I’ve had with a mechanic…
I’ve been going to Hamads for years but, after this, never again.
I went to Hamads in August of last year due to my check engine light being on. Roger, the owner, advised me of a P0420 code (converter), stating that it needed replaced.
After some time, in October, the check engine light returned. I called Hamads, had a diagnostic performed and once again, it was the converter. Roger advised me to get a full replacement. I asked, “I just replaced it with you guys? I don’t know much about cars, is it a different part?” To which he advised me it was the “front part this time”
I once again paid a full charge for a converter replacement. Unbeknownst to me, it was the same part.
After some time, the check engine light returned again and I did some research to find that Hamads installed the same part twice, charging me for both, totaling about $2,700. I brought this information to Roger’s attention to which he said, “huh, that’s weird” and took my car in for another diagnostic to find “all diagnostics normal, fill with premium fuel and if code persists, get a dealer part”.
So, the light returned and I saved up money for a dealership repair. However, when I took my car to the dealership… they found in 2 hours what Hamads could not in months:
    1. The part was under warranty and the repair should’ve been free.
    2. The part installed was half the size of the OEM part, to which Hamads’ repair technicians forced into the vehicle, bending the supporting brackets. This happened twice.
    3. The flex pipe had been awkwardly welded to the converter.
These repairs were invoiced at over $3,000.
Given the circumstances, I asked Hamads to repair their misdoings to which Roger agreed. However, given that the repairs should’ve been free to start (since the part was under manufacturers warranty) I asked for a repair and refund to which he stated, “that’s an insane demand”.
A nightmare and hard to trust.
