    Job started May 12, 2023.
    Paid contractor $7,000 total to tear out and replace partial part of driveway, sidewalk and front porch. Issue is with front porch. Was constructed in violation of building code RCO 311.1 (which states Landing shall have a dimension of NOT LESS THAN 36” measured in the direction of travel) and RCO 311.3.1 (Landing floor at egress door SHALL NOT BE MORE THAN 1 1/2” lower than the top of the threshold). Presently, Landing measures 24” in direction of travel and measures 5” lower than the top of threshold….confirmed by Lake County Building Inspector on June 20, 2023. The porch is UNSAFE!
    1. I was told by contractor that a Permit was pulled for the porch. That was a lie.
    2. As a result of the code violations, I fell exiting my front door resulting in an acute double fracture to my right wrist and a right sprained ankle. ( I consider myself being very lucky it wasn’t worse as I am 71 years old.)
    3. Demolishing present stairs and replace quoted at $8000.
    4. Build wood deck over stairs quoted at $4,800.
    5. Requesting partial refund from contractor to have SAFE wood porch built.
    This project leaves two scenarios;
    1. Contractor was totally unaware of porch building codes, or
    2. Contractor was aware and totally took advantage of me.
    Either way, JDL Concrete is incompetent, unreliable (having left my property while I was available in the house), and liars.
    I have been unable to leave my house from the front door due to PTSD from the fall. I just want a SAFE porch.
    The Lake County Building Department says they cannot help me resolve this issue, I hope and pray you can.
    Thank you.

    I just wanted to let you know that I realized I had entered the wrong ‘job start date’ on my claim form after submitting it. The start date was 5/16/23…not 5/12/23.
