I placed an order for a quizbowl machine from the American Classical League website on February 7th, 2024. The cost of the machine was $702.00. The website stated that the machines would be sent after 6 months. I saw on a teacher online group that other teachers had not received their machines after many months. Some teachers were even waiting for their quizbowl machines from the American Classical League for almost two years. Yesterday, September 4th, at nearly the 7 month mark, I received the following message:

    "Dear

Thank you for ordering a ******** machine from the American Classical League. As you know, we have been struggling to get the materials needed to fabricate machines. However, we do now have those materials and are working on catching up with the backlog of machines.

At present your machine is 11th in line for production. We hope to be sending out about two machines per week until we run out of buzzers again. (We do have another set of buzzers on order, but that is the part that takes a good deal of time.) We do realize that you are past the six-month estimated production time that we advertised. If you would prefer to receive a refund on your machine, please let us know."

I asked the business to let me know how many machines they currently have in stock to know whether I am likely to receive my machine in the next few months. I need to start using the machine with my students as soon as possible. I have yet to receive a response.

What concerns me is that the organization has only provided limited communication and information about the status of the order, and despite many customers waiting far beyond the time provided on the website, there have been no updates to the website to state that there are production issues and that there have been production issues.

We apologize for the extended delay in production.  We are now going to send monthly updates to everyone with orders in the queue, letting them know where they are in the production line. We hope this will give better information for our custimers.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.

I have previously filed a complaint against this company for misrepresentation on their website and lack of communication. They responded by saying that they would communicate about my purchase once a month. I did get an email but they are still misrepresenting the information. In their email to me on September 4th, 2024, I was told they were shipping out two machines per week and I was 11th in line. Now, six weeks later, I have received an email to say that they are still sending out two machines per week but I am only 8th in line. They are therefore not sending out two machines per week and should not be advertising that they are doing so. They also will still not disclose whether they currently have the product in stock. Their website also still says that orders take 6 months to receive when it has now been nearly 9 months since I have purchased my machine. I am requesting that they change this on their website.

    Regards,
