He did not install the floor correctly. There is supposed to be a 1/4 inch gap away from the wall. He damaged trim and floor pieces when he was upset from us pointing out problems with the floor. The whole time he was asking for more money so I bought 6 of the floor install kits so he would not use his speedsquare or hit them hard and chip the planks. He eventually admitted he had never done this type of flooring before and that he was not going to do our staircase because he wanted more money.

BBB took a complaint over the phone. Below is the voice to text voicemail description

Hi, my name is ***** ********. My case number is two to six zero two four five one. Um, my complaint is against ***** ******. His business is ***** ******** handyman out of Hilliard, ****. He, I hired him to redo a kitchen. He, we gave a 50% deposit. He tore out part of my covenant and asked for 50% of what was owed to him, stating that the job was half done, which clearly it was not against my better judgment. We did give it to him, stated the job would be done in three to four, first it was two to three weeks, then it was three to four weeks, and it's been two weeks, it's nowhere near even a quarter of the way done. He's stating that I'm micromanaging him because I'm looking over his work and he's not doing it correctly. He did not remove nails from my floors. He left wires exposed in my house. He installed a vent that was crooked. He put my floor, was putting my floor down incorrectly. He would state that he was coming to work, and I would get multiple excuses of why he was late or why he could not show up. He used a two by four, put it in crooked as well, stole a bag of drywall mud when we asked for it back. What, he said he didn't take it, and then when we pressured him even more, And he stated, oh, he accidentally put it in his vehicle, and then he finally brought it back today, which is November 25th, a week and a half later, part of it is used. And he still lied and tried to cover that up by rolling it up and shoving it next to another bag of drywall mud. I bought 22 two by fours and five of them are missing. My neighbor told me that she's seen him backed up to my garage, him and another person taking materials out of my garage, but she could not tell what was being taken out. She told me to check my garage that was on her ring camera. He said that the man that I hired to redo the floor, because he left on Wednesday that he was going to lunch, which I knew was a lie, he was not coming back, because he packed materials and then said he was going to lunch and he left the entire floor exposed again, which had been exposed for minimum four days. We have two dogs. They're chewing at the material on the floor. The laminate that was put down on entire floor, which should only be put down as you go. And then when he said he was supposed to come back on Friday, and then he called late Friday, said he wasn't coming back on Friday, then he called and texted, I'm sorry, he never calls texted, and said he wasn't coming back till, he wasn't coming to work Saturday either. That is when we hired someone to put the floor down. They had to pull up the three rows that took him three days to lay and they took everything up and redid my entire floor and we had to pay them. We asked him to come by Sunday to speak with him again, about the lack of work and the work that is being done, done incorrectly. He said that he could not come and we told him to be here on Monday at 8 a.m. He said he would. He came, they were finishing the floor and we told him we had to hire the other person to finish the floor. We had to hire them to finish the floor because he never showed up and wasn't coming back and we can't do this any longer and we would like him to continue to do the work. If not he could give us a refund and then he said well I would give you a thousand dollars back and my fiance said well give me the thousand dollars and he said why don't I do that right now. He said I'll be back when he's done with the floor. I said well that'll be two hours and he came back in two hours and he did not he said he was I said there's wires hanging all over my downstairs basement he said he put new electric in he did not there's no one new electric installed at all in my home I said why are those wires hanging everywhere are you putting them through the trusses there he said no I can staple him up so he said he was going in the basement to staple them up he gathered up what little tools that he did have here and then he gathered his drop cloths which I did not know he was taking those tools to his vehicle and then he gathered up his drop cloths as he passed me in my hallway he said oh I'm gonna put these in the car since you had bought the keep her to go down on the floor, we won't need these." I said, okay, went about my business and he was gone and he never said anything, refused to answer my calls or my texts, refused to answer my fiance's calls or texts. And I want a full refund. Not only that, but what I have paid him is $3 ,400. He never put plastic up. There is dust two inches thick from the drywall all through my house. My house is 3 ,500 square feet. My house is going to have to be professionally cleaned. I had to pay somebody $400 to lay a floor. Part of my plugs don't work in my house now. Now I'm going to have to contact an electrician to come in and look at that. The materials, he's sold 80 bags out of my garage, instruction bags. I think they're $20 a piece. I think they're $20 or $25 for 40 bags each at ******. He stated that he had to go to ****** to get plumbing. He gives me a material list. It's either here the same day or within 24 hours. He did not give me any materials for plumbing and I stated that to him it said if you and then he had to go back to ****** the second time because he broke something and I said give me the receipt and I will pay for those materials he wants to charge me $25 each for going to ****** that is 2.2 miles from my house and that's the whole reason that I provided all the materials because I was not going to be charged for no reason. He failed to provide me the receipt and he said, my fianc, we've been asking for a receipt for over a week, then he provided my fianc a receipt and was out of date and time on it. And we told him that that's not, we need the date and time on the receipt and he failed to provide that. And every little thing he wanted to say, try to add more money on and he stated to me literally probably 20 times that he underbid the job. That's not my fault. And he said he has to provide for his family. So then he told me today that that's why he isn't working is because he has to go make money to provide for his family. So he spent the money that we gave him and then he left the job. The person that put the floor in used his square twice, the little square, to make a line on the boards, but he used it twice. And his complaint is that he used...
