On September 9, 2022, Ed Rike Company installed an aerator pump on my septic tank. The total charge was $2,795.00. I felt that the charge was not correct so on October 4, 2022, I called and talked to Office Manager, ******, to discuss the invoice. She told me that there is a 35 percent upcharge on all parts and that the service call hourly rate is $115.00. Using this information, I calculated my bill and found I was overcharged by $542.98.
I called ******, on October 5, 2022, to discuss the bill again, and she disagreed with me on the overcharge, so I asked for a detailed invoice with all the charges and she said she could not do this and she would have someone named ** give me a call. (** never called me.) On October 6, 2022, I had my son-in-law, **** call. **** is an electrician and knows how the trade services work and charge customers. **** asked to talk to Mr. Rike, and was told he was unavailable. **** talked to ****. They talked about the invoice and the upcharge, she told **** the hourly rate is $112.50, and there is a $95.00 service call. She said that I was given an estimate and agreed to the estimate. This is not true, I never was given an estimate for this job. **** explained that they were handling this as a service call on a business and this was a residence call. She said the charges were correct and that no refund will be given. I again refigured the charges with her information and the overcharge is over $400.00.

I feel that I was overcharged on this job, but they will not prove me wrong. I personally think they charged me more for the aerator than the 35 percent. I have a copy of the invoice, so I know how much it was. I asked the plumber for a copy of the invoice for my records, he did not offer a copy of the invoice. I had to call the company where the aerator was purchased to find out the warranty information and get a booklet on the aerator.

Aerator cost $1,360 and tax was $95.20. Plumber charged 2.5 hours for the job.

      Business Response

      Date: 11/08/2022

Ed Rike Plumbing has standard pricing for our aerator pumps and hot water heater installs. Our technician arrived at residence, diagnosed issue. Called our estimating technician, he was given a price over the phone of $2,795.00 for the standard price. This price includes Time $115.00 PH, Trip Charge $95.00, Aerator pump $1,964.52 with mark up for material, Anything over the cost of time, material, and trip charge is given for any unforeseen causes that may happen if there is any removal or new piping needed. Customer was given a verbal estimate for agreement before starting the work. Given that the estimate was given over the phone and work was not seen by our estimator in person we are willing to give a more direct time and material pricing as nothing else was unforeseen and all work went as planned. Ms. ***** will be sent a check for the remainder of the time, material and trip charge of $390.48.
