I am the director and a nurse at an independent living facility where I assist with elders appointments, labs, and general medical questions. A few months ago I had a resident ask me to double check her insurance policy and in-network providers because she was told she needed to provide roughly ***** up front prior to a procedure. Whole health was in network, and she met her deductible, but the numbers didnt add up. When asked for an itemized bill we were told we dont know the cost until were done and not everything has a price to which I asked how do you estimate it to be ***** after insurance if you dont know the cost? We cancelled the appointment and she got a second opinion elsewhere locally. They performed the exact same procedure, provided an itemized bill and it only cost her *** after insurance. Since then Ive spoken with multiple people with similar experiences. This is essentially extortion.

This is a wild, baseless accusation being made by someone who clearly does not understand the nuances of dental insurance coverage. Obviously, there was a difference in insurance coverage, there was misinformation, there was a lack of information regarding treatment costs from one office to another, or all of the above. All Delta Dental Plans are not the same. For example, there are Delta PPO, Delta Legion, Delta HMO, Delta Self-funded, Delta Managed, Delta Discount, Delta Care and Delta Premier plans. A specific example would be: Delta Care is Facility assigned coverage. This means you have to go to a specific location, not necessarily to the dentist of your choice. Whole Health Dentistry is only in network with Delta Dental Premier insurance plans, but we will submit claims to most employer-sponsored insurance plans. In-network and out-of-network coverage can vary greatly. Even in- network coverage can vary depending on the level of coverage and specific plan limitations. Our office operates with the highest standards of care and ethics, and it is our pleasure to serve the people of our community both fairly and professionally. We would never abuse or extort our patients or the trust they place in us. Yes, Whole Health Dentistry requests payment up front once treatment has been gone over and accepted, in order for the patient to be put on the schedule. This is a common practice to ensure prompt payment, and reduce administrative costs associated with billing and collections. It sounds as if your resident did not have Delta Dental Premier coverage, or that an estimate may have been presented to your resident for consideration prior to them accepting treatment at Whole Health Dentistry. Since your resident did not accept treatment or schedule a procedure at our office, there would not be an itemized statement to give them. If there is ever a question regarding payment, insurance coverage, or treatment, a pre-determination can be submitted, or a consultation can be scheduled to provide clarity before moving forward with a procedure. We want to provide our patients with all costs and care expectations in order to provide them with the best possible results.

I would not recommend anyone going to this facility. The only reason I switched dentists was due to insurance. Since the first visit I had critical teeth issues that needed addressed. Mind you Ive seen a dentist all my life and have never been told this. Also, found out over ****** of my spouses dental work was not submitted to insurance and put back on us to pay 2 months prior to the procedure being performed. Paid almost ***** dollars. Decided enough was enough. I Asked for our records and they said it would be ***** for the 1st 10 pages. It was ***** for 3 pages each for my spouse and I. They only gave us one visit and an X-ray. This place is a joke!!!

I would like to address multiple factors of this review by ***** ******.First, she has a complaint that she was told that she had issues that needed addressed on multiple teeth that she was not made aware of from her previous dental office. It is our standard of care to inform the patient of the findings from their appointment and exams in our office. Our records, and oral photos are gone over with our patients at the time of their appointments.Secondly, ***** is writing about her spouse's dental work. The treatment plan was presented to her spouse, agreed to, and signed by her spouse. Insurance companies have a maximum allowed benefit per benefit period, anything over that amount would not be covered during that benefit period and would result in out of pocket costs.Thirdly, ***** is unhappy about the fee for her records. Most dental offices do not require your previous records because they will take their own x-rays in order to have a current and up-to-date diagnosis of their patient, but we will provide records for a fee when requested. Ohio State Law ******** has been in place for several years to help dental offices compensate for the costly and time consuming practice of gathering and printing copies of records. Our fees are within the guidelines of that law and in this instance include the cost of each record search, cost per written page, and the cost per x-ray or (CAT) scan recorded to paper for each requested party.
