A.R.E. does not provide replacement parts for their (highly problematic) windows. Nor are they willing to provide information on their window supplier, or subcomponent suppliers so that replacement parts can be purchased. A.R.E. insists that any issue of any type can only be resolved by replacing the complete window assembly. Small leak?... no seals/gaskets, replace the entire window. Sliding portion difficult to slide?... no tracks/channels, replace the entire window. Any glass breakage (even if only a section that is 1/3 or 1/4 of the full glass area of the window)?... no panes, replace the entire window.
The company seems to actively work to ensure that the consumers only option is to purchase entirely new truck toppers from them, with every option. They seem actively engaged in ensuring that no refurbishment, repair, or upgrades can ever be performed.Initial Complaint

We purchased a truck cap on March 14th 2024 with a 12-14 week lead time. That would have meant an arrival in mid June. We were informed a few weeks ago that the ship date was August 22nd (24 weeks). Today we were informed of a ship date of 9/12 (27 weeks). ARE's customer service is nearly impossible to get in touch with and the vendor we purchased from is left with nothing they can do. We have a brand new work truck that will now be sitting for 6+ months and we are losing money each day we cannot get it set up and on the road. The reason for the delay that was given by the vendor we purchased from was that ARE took an order from a large company and pushed back all the others so they could fulfill. Whether that is the case or not, the fact that there has been no remorse and they left their sellers with nothing but "I am sorry" is disgraceful.Initial Complaint

I purchased a truck cap/camper shell for my Toyota Tundra through an authorized dealer of A.R.E. Truck caps. It was manufactured and delivered back to the dealer after about a month or so. I brought my truck back for the day for the install. After I had the camper for a few days I spent time going through it to check out the features. Overall the construction is solid and what I expected. The issues I had were mainly
Cosmetic and inside the shell
Itself. The quality of the materials were poor and seemed oxidized and old. The carpet lining is frail and falling apart when you touch it. Some bolts and screws were old and oxidized as if they had been outside and weathered. There were slits and cuts with glue stuck in certain spots throughout the interior. I took video and pictures and sent them via email to the dealer. I even had it looked at by a couple of other people who agreed that it appeared the parts were old and Unacceptable.
The camper was brand new and cost over $4000 so I reached out to the dealer to see what could be done about it. The response the dealer gave was that ARE would take the camper back to see what the issues were, however it meant that I would need to return to the dealer, have the camper removed , shipped out of state, wait for a response and then have it returned and re-installed. This option seemed ridiculous considering I had no other recourse and prior to that I called the company directly who told me they would not field any complaints and it relied on the dealer to facilitate them.
The customer service is essentially non existent and the fact I spent so much money but have no avenue to have issues fixed is unacceptable.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do
Thank youBusiness Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. Please see my response below:
I have read the response carefully. It is the same answer that is on their website and provides me no more information than I had already known from the beginning. The response they gave was not only dis-ingenuine, but it appeared to be an answer that was cut and paste from their website. It is obvious there was no thought or care in their response considering the tone of the message as well as the grammar and spelling. I am convinced they have no interest in making changes. To be clear, I had originally contacted ARE's customer service and heard this exact response and could tell the customer service was very irritated with the conversation. My direction at that time was to go through the dealer, which I did. They reached out to ARE personally and the solutions resulted in me returning the entire camper shell (and have it shipped out again) as they weren't able to fix any of the issues. As noted, this process puts the customer in the middle of a situation that they have no control over. Both the dealer and the seller point fingers at each other which gives the customer no recourse or avenues to fix their issues. My dealer did all they could and have no issues with their business. ARE has no customer service model that is consistent with providing good customer service for a very expensive product, I have provided an updated picture of the Serial Number based on ARE's request; however, I doubt it will make any difference.

Purchased an ARE bed cover from ******** ******* ****** ********* **** on 03/26/2024 that just DID NOT fit my truck correctly. There was a gap between the side of the truck and the cover that would let water into the carpeted surface. Also the back of the cover would rub the tailgate when driving. The cover looked nothing like the pictures in their brochure or website, if it did, I would have never ordered it!
I have also filed a claim with the BBB, against the dealer where it was purchased, and the dealer now has the cover because I wanted it off my truck before it caused damage!
The dealer would NOT issue a refund until they talked to ARE, and ARE would not talk to me to try to work this out!
I spent $2027.18 for this cover that didn't fit correctly and the dealer now has the cover!Customer Answer

purchased in 12/2020 for *** *****. once installed I noticed it had a 1 inch gap between the bulkhead of the truck and the front of the cx revo. the installing dealer crammed a lot of rubber weatherstripping in the area to take up the space. complaints were addressed by cramming more weatherstripping around the joint between the cap and truck. with the winter rains it leaked profusely into the bed of the truck. complaints and warranty requests to ARE were met with unanswered emails, unanswered phone messages and endless delays. installing dealer said they would have new cap made but that never happened. all ARE would do is send cheap patch up parts to try and plug spaces to hopefully avoid further liability for replacement. 3 years later and after the last repair this summer, the leaks are worse than ever. cap looks nice and appears to fit truck from the outside but wet weather makes it obvious it doesn't. I can't recommend this cap or ARE as a responsible, ethical, consumer friendly, aftermarket manufacturerCustomer Answer

Approximately 8 years ago, I purchased an A.R.E. MX Truck topper from A.R.E.'s local dealer "****** ****" in Albuquerque, NM. The gel coat has begun to peel on the passenger side top corner of the roof. Per their own Warranty information readily available on their own website (included in this complaint) This is covered under their warranty:
"A.R.E. warrants to you, the original purchaser, for as long as you own your cap that the exterior paint will not abnormally fade or peel due to material or workmanship defect faster than the original pickup it was installed on by an authorized A.R.E. retail dealer."
The original truck paint is in excellent condition and both the truck and topper have spent the majority of their life protected in a garage. However, ARE is refusing to honor this warranty unless I ship the topper back to their factory and even then are not guaranteeing that they will honor the warranty. In effect, I must spend several hundred dollars to ship it back to them and they "MAY" honor their warranty, but will not commit to it. Additionally, this would mean that I do not have the topper during this time to protect the contents in the bed of the truck.
Additionally, their warranty also warrants defects in the fiberglass shell and the corner of the topper is separating from the frame and they are REFUSING to warranty that issue.
"A.R.E. warrants to you, the original retail purchaser of an A.R.E. brand fiberglass truck cap, that the body will be structurally free from defects in material and workmanship for as long as you own your cap and the original vehicle."
Additionally, the banding is coming loose around the base of the topper.
I wish them to honor their warranty and either repair or replace the topper at their expense without major hardship to me.Initial Complaint

I ordered an ARE truck cover from my local dealer on 10 March 2022 with an expected delivery time of three and a half months. My dealer claims he can't receive any updates on delivery. I contacted A R E several times via e-mail and phone. Customer service is very rude when asked about delivery. Left messages for a supervisor named Gary and haven't received a response. All I'm asking is a delivery date. If they can't produce the item, they shouldn't be taking orders.
