They claim not to be in network with any dental insurance. We were instructed that he insurance will mail us a check for the cleaning and exam. Once received we were told to bring the check in to the office for payment. They billed double what the insurance allows and we were told at that time we are expected to pay the remaining amount. Dr **** billed over $800, the insurance only allowed $410. I was told they were not discounting their fee and I am expected to pay remaining amount which is over $400. My insurance covers cleaning at 100% twice per year and carry Indy for that reason. They are deceptive and un ethical.

Thank you for the opportunity to address concerns for our dental billing policies. We are a small, private pediatric dental office that has served northwest Ohio for 52 years. We have always been “out-of-network” to dental benefit / insurance companies.  Our staff describe “out-of-network” to our patient families on the phone, in our patient paperwork, and on a sign at our check-in desk and have done so for the last 2 years of interactions with this family.  Our policy states that the patient family is responsible for the cost of treatment at the time of service and we will file the claim form for the dental benefit company that you work with.  Reimbursement rates are highly variable and change per contract with your employer.  We have standardized fee schedules for all patients and they can not be discounted based on patient reimbursement.  Providing discounts to patients after billing is dental insurance fraud.  We are apologetic to hear of your frustration but we take extra strides to be transparent in our billing practices which are an ethical, and common, approach in dentistry.
