I wanted to purchase a muscle car because I had to sell my motorcycle due to health concerns. I'm a disabled combat veteran. I explained to **** (owner) that I am looking for a nice muscle car that required little to no work necessary. He assured me the 1967 Chevelle I was looking at was a great car. He kept pointing out how it had brand new wiring. I bought the car for $47,000, which in the muscle car world should get you a nice driver car that doesn't need any work. The car showed up at my house and wouldn't start. He said the delivery guy must've left the key on. I jumped the car and got it into my garage, where I charged up the battery. I pushed in the cigarette lighter, while trying to familiarize myself with the car, and it caught on fire and melted down. The next morning it wouldn't start. I took the battery and had it tested. On my way there he called me from an earlier text. He said he would bet the battery had a bad cell, after he blamed the delivery guy again. It had a bad cell. I bought a new battery and installed it in car. The next morning the battery was dead. I took the car to my certified mechanic. It ended up costing me over $900 to find out that it didn't have all new wiring. It had spliced in wiring in various places and many of the connections were burned up. It was wired completely wrong. The mechanic told me I was lucky, because it could have caught on fire in my garage and burned the house down. When I last spoke to him he tried to blame me for doing something to it. I have had this car for about 3 months now. it has been in shops for most of that time. Yesterday I finally had the car and was able to take it on a cruise. It felt great, except when we were on our way home the engine started rattling and clanking. I still have to have a mechanic look at it but it is most likely a rod bearing which would require and entire engine rebuild. I thought I was dealing with a honest business but he is hiding behind "as is".

.**** ********* came to our shop himself in person to purchase the car.  He himself looked it over, inspected it, and we even test drove it.  None of the issues he stated were even brought up during inspection. The car looked amazing,  started with no issues, no noises, no smoke, ect..,  it ran and drove with zero problems. The wiring is new, it's obvious, you can see it very plainly, we have pictures.
Being that I've driven this car personally on many occasions with zero issues, I find this complaint ridiculous. It's not a brand new car, it's 57 years old, it's been nicely restored but it's still 57 years old.  It looked, ran, and drove great when he was here and he obviously bought it, then once in his possession it's all of a sudden on fire and there's all these issues??  This is suspicious to say the least, Not to mention, it was said verbally and put in writing the car is sold as is. Its absurd to even think a 57 year old car would come with a warranty.
We will offer no resolution of any kind to this person. We have consulted our Atty concerning this matter, Any and all further correspondence to this matter will be forwarded to our legal council.

The deposit of $500.00 was processed from my bank account to this business via Zelle on 10/10/2023 and was initiated by me on 10/8/2023. The price was also agreed upon 2 days later as it was an all cash sale minus the deposit. I asked for the VIN of the vehicle on 10/11/2023 to apply for insurance before picking it up. My mechanic and I drove 7 hours with a uHaul auto transport to this business on 10/13/2023 to pick up at 10 AM on 10/14/2023. When we arrived we were informed that the vehicle could not be driven by us and that our contact could only drive it. The reason given was a previous customer crashed a vehicle. After he drove the vehicle around the block we again asked to drive it at which point he asked us what the difference was if he drove it or we did. I explained that to pay this much money for a car and not be able to test drive it was a deal breaker. This was also not disclosed to me in any written correspondence or telephone correspondence in addition to the deposit not being refundable. This is how much was spent on this process: Deposit = $500.00 Auto Transport = $120.89 Hotel rooms = $92.20 Insurance = $456.00 Fuel = $223.29

We're very surprised to receive this letter given the events of this transaction.  This deal was settled via phone 10/08/23, Pics and video were provided.  A $500 deposit / down payment was paid as a non refundable deposit / down payment, (as ALL deposits / down payments are because the car is considered sold and ALL Ads are pulled off the market / marked pending and all other potential buyers are disregarded.) We even offered him a substantially discounted cash price on the car which he was very happy with.
He arrived with another person to pick the car up 10/14/23.
Even though the deal was agreed, done and settled, I still took them both for a drive in the car, approx 5 miles,  the car ran and drove perfectly with zero issues.  It is a 1960 Chevrolet Impala, It has only 21,000 original miles on it and is in outstanding condition.  The car is in even better condition than described to him on the phone and looks better in person than in the pics provided, so it was not a disappointment of any kind.  He stated ZERO complaints about the car.   He then wanted to drive it himself,  (a self proclaimed novice who has never even driven a classic car) We declined, as we always do. He then said his friend can drive it...We declined, as we always do.  In the Classic car business It is typical and customary that prospective buyers do not personally drive these vehicles, we take buyers for test drives with one of us at the wheel.  Not only for liability and insurance purposes,   but we've already paid the price for making an exception to the rule and letting a prospective buyer drive the car,  an accident happened in an irreplaceable 60+ year old car.  (As this buyer stated, I already told him this)
What's most interesting about his complaint is the non refundable deposit / down payment part.   He was not only told it was non refundable, but when he reneged on buying the car as agreed, he shook my hand and said thank you anyway, "you can keep the deposit".  I responded with "Thanks, but it's not refundable anyways"      It Just so happens, we have full 360 degree 1080P security cameras with audio, which we reviewed and confirmed this on playback, even his friend shook my hand before they left.
Because of this person backing out of a committed deal we not only lost valuable end of season market time on the car but also lost another buyer that we spoke to previously that called us back to purchase it, we told him it was already sold.

We operate 100% legit,  100% transparent,   and always try to under promise and over deliver.  Yet, there's bound to be someone that thinks 100% still isn't enough...In 30+ years in this business We've never been asked for reimbursement of personal expenses from a customer, let alone from A customer that backed out of a done deal at no fault of ours.  He committed to the purchase, He put a $500 deposit / down payment on it AND insured it, That is obviously NOT what someone does, that's just coming to "look" at a car.  We will not offer any resolution to this customer, in actuality We are the ones that should be asking for reimbursement, we lost market exposure time and most of all, we turned away a good buyer.
Any and all further communication with this consumer or this matter will be turned over to our legal counsel.
