My reason for filing this complaint is because I don’t want this to happen to anyone else in the future. We hired homeland exteriors in February 2024 to redo the siding on a reno project in Granville, Ohio. He was supposed to remove the old siding, install OSB board and install new gutters and vertical siding to the house. We paid a $6,000 deposit through a check, and he started shortly after. We didn’t notice until the end, and it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. He left the project completely unfinished after we paid the remaining balance through credit card. He didn’t caulk or seal any windows, he left a 2inch gap around the front door with absolutely no siding. Did not seal anything, and the work that was done was sloppy and uneven. When we asked him to come back out and fix the problems, he did come back and fix the issue around the door, but decided to take photos of our roof and ceiling for “evidence” for why his work was so bad, and never came back again. We requested a refund because the only option was to completely take the siding and OSB off and start over. We were already experiencing water build up and damage 2 weeks after he finished the project. Keep in mind the photos i’m sharing are AFTER he came back to “fix” the problems. He denied a refund and we ended up having to dispute the credit card charge so we could at least receive a portion of the money back. So far we’ve spent of $5,000 fixing the siding and expect it to cost $8,000-$10,000 total to do it right. It was a horrible experience that I don’t want anyone else to go through. The only explanation we’ve been able to rationalize is that Homeland Exteriors just doesn’t have the skills that they claim to have. Thankfully we received about $3,400 back, but the $6,000 is long gone. Please do your research before hiring this company! Im not sharing to slander, we have clear evidence of the problems, I really just don’t want anyone else to go through what we had to.

    Dear BBB,

    Before we took on
this job we brought it to the customer's attention that the foundation of the home in
question was not level and was in serious need of repair. Issues we were
concerned about were with the foundation brick crumbling and protruding in
several areas around the home. These issued caused the home to not be square
and the windows to be crooked before the work even began. We were advised by the customer that they were not going to be fixing the foundation issues on the home and
that we were to proceed with siding the home. In addition to the foundation
issues, the roof needed serious repair as it wasn’t even attached to the home
on the backside. At which the home owner also stated that they had no intention of repairing the
    roof.

    **** did start this
job himself as our siding crew was on another project. As they completed that project,
they did join **** in working on this home. We do have photos of our team on site. This
job was done during the winter, so we did have to work around rain and snow
    days/

    After the work was
completed, **** returned as requested and met with the home owner's father **** to address some concerns
that he had brought up. At that time **** walked around the home with **** and
began pulling the flashing away from the foundation causing it to bend. The
photo they posted was taken after **** had bent the flashing.

With that said we noticed some other discrepancies with other photos that the home owner shared as they do not match the photos that **** took of the same windows when the
work was completed. In our photos the j channel is ran correctly and is not
pulled away from the home. The j channel
around the door was caused when the home owner had someone else replace the door after **** had sided that space. We also noticed that the deck that was in place in the
back was removed. This is what caused the OSB to be visible. At the time the
home was sided there was a deck, and the siding was done up to that point. Also,
on the front door **** left the siding off as access to the header is needed to
    reattach the steps.

We did everything in our power to complete this job to the best of our ability with the limitations that we had due to the house being crooked. We had several members of our team assist in addressing the issued. We did not issue a refund to the customer because we had done our job as stated in our contract and it was her father **** that began pulling on the siding and removed the deck as well as the door that accessed the craw space. This was done after the home was sided leaving the home to look unfinished.

I previously filed a complaint ********* after seeing the response of Homeland Exteriors and **** ****** I am re-filing to ask for a 100% refund of the project. We have been awarded $3,234 after full investigation by the credit card company, and now are seeking to receive the $6,006 we paid through check before **** started the project. We hired **** in Feb. 2024. He stated the project would take a week from start to finish with his crew. No crew ever showed up. He did the work all by himself and it took about a month. There were 2 exchanges on payment, 1st $6,006.00 as a deposit on 02/09/2024 before he started the project. The second on was on 03/08/2024 after receiving a text that the project was completed that total was $3,234.00. I paid that by credit card on the day of completion. This is a Reno project, we are not at this house everyday. I trusted the work was done well and I paid ****. After further inspection on the house we noticed some serious problems. I’ve attached photos of the work he did, all photos are exactly how **** left the job. He stated he would remove ALL old siding, put on new OSB, and install new flashing, vertical siding, and gutters. From the photos you can see that even from the beginning he did not do what he said. The main cause of the issue with the bowing of the siding is because didn’t remove the bottom layer of the old siding, he left it on and put the OSB over top of it. His argument saying he “has done exactly what he quoted” is completely false and this is just one example. The flashing was ran at 45 degree angles instead of 90 degrees angles which also led to bowing. He didn’t seal any windows, we had to ask him to come back and do that. The photos speak for themselves on the job he left us with, and that is just surface issues. We have given Homeland the opportunity to fix these issues and it wasn't made right, all photos were taken after the day they came back to try to fix the issues they originally left. Will share more info

Homeland Exteriors, LLC is disappointed that it has not been able to reach a resolution
with *** ******* ***** ***, the owner and landlord of the subject property, regarding
its concerns with the work performed. Homeland Exteriors, LLC has been in business
for over five years, and we are committed to providing quality services and strive to
ensure that our customers are happy regardless as to whether they are a homeowner
or another business (as in this situation). This is the first time we have experienced an
issue with a property owner and wish to work towards an amicable resolution; however,
*** ******* ****** concerns are issues that Homeland was not hired to perform or is
damage that was incurred after Homeland completed the project in which it is not
    responsible.
Most, if not all, of the allegations and claims in *** ******* ****** Complaint are
factually inaccurate and if there is any possibility of an amicable resolution, Homeland
believes that is imperative that the Parties can at least agree to certain facts. First, the
photos attached to the Complaint were taken many weeks after the completion of the
project and do not accurately reflect the condition of the property when Homeland
    completed its services.
After completing the project on March 6, 2024, Mr. ******, the owner of Homeland,
contacted *** ******* **** to arrange for an inspection to address any concerns and
punch-list items it may have. The inspection was then scheduled for March 7, 2024,
    between Mr. ****** and Ms. ******* ******, the owner of *** ******* ****. During
the inspection, *** ******* **** and Homeland walked around the property and
inspected all work that was performed. *** ******* **** loved the work that was
performed and notified Homeland that everything looked great, and payment would be
forthcoming. Following the initial inspection, *** ******* **** was notified to contact
Homeland if there are any concerns or issues that are discovered or arise in the future.
*** ******* **** then issued the final payment to Homeland on March 8, 2024, after
the initial inspection, to satisfy the remaining balance owed under the contract.
Homeland then received a call from *** ******* **** a few days after it issued final
payment about some issues with the work performed. Homeland and *** *******
**** then met the following day to identify the issues, which Homeland addressed and
corrected within the next couple of days. In fact, Homeland addressed minor issues
that were not even part of its contract with *** ******* ****. At this point, Homeland
believed that all issues had been fully addressed and resolved.
A few days thereafter and within three weeks of receiving the final payment, ***
******* **** contacted Homeland a second time about issues it had with the work.
This was a surprise to Homeland considering that it believed all issues had been
identified, all issues had been fully addressed and did not otherwise notice any issues
during its previous inspections and repairs. Nevertheless, Homeland arranged for a
third inspection to address any newly discovered items. During the third inspection,
Homeland learned that *** ******* ****’s newest concerns pertained to work that
Homeland was not hired to perform and were issues that Homeland was not responsible
    for correcting.

    Mr. **** ******, a representative of *** ******* ****, was becoming visually upset
and hostile as Homeland was explaining its position and identifying what items it would
still be willing to address as a professional courtesy free of charge. *** ******* ****
was not satisfied with Homeland’s standpoint and demanded that all repairs be
performed irrespective as to whether Homeland performed or was responsible for the
work. To demonstrate his level of unsatisfaction with Homeland’s position, Mr. ******
then walked over to the structure and attempted to remove a piece of flashing by
ripping it off with his hands, which was work that Homeland had completed more than a
month prior. Mr. ****** then demanded that Homeland repair the flashing since it was
something it was responsible for installing under the contract. At this point, it became
evident that reaching an amicable resolution with *** ******* **** was very unlikely.
Homeland notified *** ******* **** that due to its unprofessional conduct and open
hostility, that it would not be addressing any of new concerns, even as a courtesy,
because it was not work Homeland was hired to perform, were to items in which
Homeland was not responsible and involved damage that Homeland did not cause.
Homeland did everything in its power to complete the job to the complete satisfaction
of *** ******* ****, but it became immediately apparent based upon *** *******
****** unacceptable conduct during the third inspection that the prosect of an amicable
resolution was very unlikely. Despite *** ******* ****** conduct and the previous
impasse, Homeland is interested in engaging the services of the BBB’s Dispute
Resolution Process and is more than willing to participate in a mediation with ***
******* ****. It is Homeland’s goal for *** ******* **** to be satisfied with the
work performed on its investment property. As such, Homeland is hopeful that with the
assistance of the BBB’s Dispute Resolution services that the Parties can come to an
resolution to the satisfaction of *** ******* ****.
    Thank you,
    Homeland Exteriors, LLC

I am rejecting this response because: All of this information has been submitted and disputed by chase bank. We received $3,324 back through credit card charge. Homeland claiming our evidence is "Factually inaccurate" is ridiculous considering his "defense" has all been recently made up AFTER the credit card dispute. He told the credit card company he didn't fix the issues because we didn't pay him to do so. We paid him to do the job correctly, when he didn't we gave him the opportunity to fix it. He said he couldn't complete it all in one day, so he'd be coming back. We gave him ample time to return after the first day of repairs and when he never did come back we chose to move forward. We asked for a refund and used a different company to make the repairs. We had a deadline we had to stick to. His inability to complete the project correctly couldn't delay us any longer. Again, the reason we are submitting a complaint is because we are requesting the $6,006.00 that was paid by check as a deposit to this company to be refunded to us. The company has now chosen to fabricate a story where **** ****** destroyed the siding on his own after the project was completed. This story has many holes. We have proven over and over again through dates, photos, and text messages that he is lying. We are bringing the BBB into this to resolve the $6,006.00. We have spent an extra 8-10k in repairs. We have testimonies from professionals who inspected the job. I would like to move forward with settling this issue, getting our money back, and moving on. If we had chosen to take this issue to court we would recieve all our money back PLUS the money we paid to repair his issues. We are simply asking for what we paid him so we can move on.

The reason that the siding was an issue was because Homeland failed to remove the bottom layer of existing siding (we have already shared photos of this) He installed OSB over top of bottom layer of old siding and then on top of the OSB he installed the new siding (again, pictured, several issues with that). That caused buckling, water build up, etc. He failed to simply remove ALL existing siding. And that absolutely was on the invoice. He has done everything except take responsibility. Saying he's "never had issues on other jobs" is no excuse or explanation. The photos speak for themselves. His story doesn't add up, and hasn't from the beginning. When he was hired he claimed he was able to do the job. Clearly that didn't happen. We were lied to and scammed. That is why we are asking for our money back. Our information is VERY factual, timeline is completely accurate. Text messages show him admitting he knew there were issues. Personal employees on the job had conversations with him where he refused to remove all the siding, although he knew that was the only way to fix it.

Again, we have resolved the issue on our own at this point. We are simply asking for the money back because we literally had to pay 2 different companies to come in and fix what he messed up.

This all could have been avoided if he started with what he said he would do on the invoice. REMOVE ALL OLD SIDING! He failed to do that from the beginning so we had to completely back track and start over to fix that.

Please let me know how to move forward and get this resolved. It has now been 2 months since filing this complaint through BBB, just for Homeland to tell the same lies they said the first time. This has been a ridiculous experience. We thought this would be the best way forward, asking for the $6,006.00 through BBB instead of taking anyone to court (which would result in $16,000+) and has turned out to be just as much of a hassle. I would like to get this closed and completed.
