Original contract amount before wood replacement added on: $11,115

Business was to remove existing roof down to wood sheathing on house and garage. Install new drip edge on all structures, replace wood as needed, ice guard on house, reflash chimney into mortar joints, synthetic underlayment on all structures, 7" self sealing course on rakes and waves, new ridge vent on house, shingles installed with nails, magnetic clean up, remove debris, pay for permit.

      Dispute:
Old drip edge remaining on house, drip edge not covering new or old roof sheathing in places (used too small of a drip edge profile), sagging roof in area on back of house, flashing on chimney so poorly done with snips in metal pointing towards the chimney, nail holes not caulked, nails through drip edges, step flashing not installed in certain areas against the siding of the house, drip edge not properly overlapped, ice guard/underlayment above drip edge in certain areas and below drip edge in other areas, magnetic clean up was done so poorly I have found nails in my driveway and yard consistently since their second attempt to clean up, gutters screwed into house siding, gutters not installed behind the drip edge, shingles flipping up on areas of the house, ridge vent not securely attached in other areas, ridge cap shingles crooked on garage structure, no kick out flashing where roof meets siding, gaps in fascia they replaced.

I have had the company out twice to fix the initial issues of poor chimney flashing. Each time the repair was sloppier/worse. I also had the company out to recaulk flashing where the caulk was dripping off the new flashing and house. Got my own inspection done and have discovered more installation issues that will shorten the life of this new roof and my siding. Company has offered to fix but disputes what is installed incorrectly and now is telling me that some repairs are a change order and additional cost. More pics avail

Company has disputed what was installed correctly despite third party inspection report. Craftsmanship on the roof overall is poor and unacceptable, including the chimney flashing which the company installed once and repaired twice. The third installation is over caulked and doesn't have caulking on all mail holes. They broke a shingle while repairing the chimney both the second and third time. On the third attempt to repair the flashing they just caulked the cracked shingle down. I do not believe that this company will repair my roof in a way that is up to code or has the longevity of the roof in mind. They have also stated that my repair requests are a change order and can only be done at an additional cost to me.

Replacing the roof decking or the shingles will not change the structural nature of your roof.   To give an analogy, it is comparable to if you replace your carpeting, it will not change a badly dipping floor. Your house is very old with many original components. Your home has beautiful character because of it age (100+ years old) but there are certain items that show their age when they are that old like the original siding, and sagging structural components.  We did replace the roof decking that was rotted and necessary to achieve a proper roof installation.  However, there are dips in your roof, ridges and rafters that would require significant reframing of the structural components of your home. It is explicit in every contract that changing these structural components are beyond the scope of a roof replacement.  As for the flashing around your chimney, the age of your chimney makes it difficult to flash as neatly as a more recently built chimney.  With that said, I have expressed to you many times that we are willing to flash the chimney free of charge.  I understand that you want the drip edge to overlap more than it currently does. Overlapping the drip edge too far causes the flashing to flair out, creating gaps and it no longer looks clean.  With that said, I have expressed to you in person many times that we are willing to redo the drip edge to your liking. Because of the age of the home and the condition of your siding, it is more difficult to install the flashing along the side walls.  In a modern home we are able to ice guard up behind the siding, removing pieces of siding and then reinstalling them.  However at your home because of the age and condition of the siding we had to approach things differently.  There is more caulk than normal, but that is because we are flashing to siding that is beyond its useful life and very old.  With that said, I have expressed to you in person that we are more than happy to re do the caulking.  The gutters are screwed to your fascia board because the boards have a significant amount of curve to them and are not straight or square.  It was necessary to put additional fasteners to get the gutter to bend to the existing fascia.  Once again this is because the house old.  With out the additional fasteners the gutters would be gapping from your home which would be unsatisfactory, both aesthetically and functionally.  In general I have communicated that I am happy to make many alterations free of charge because I want you to be a happy customer.  Changes that you would like that are beyond the scope of the original contract such as replacing siding pieces or attempting to modify structure components of your home, would be change orders.  I want you to be a happy customer and am happy to come back out.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The roof does not meet code and does not meet acceptable standards of an installation agreement that was a complete tear off and complete replacement. The installation process also does not follow manufacturers installation instructions. This voids my material warranty and the integrity of my home. We have discussed this matter at length via email with all documents sent between me and Barbera Home Improvement. I contracted this company for a full tear off and full replacement, not a full tear off so poorly done and not to code that the business's solution is to patchwork their mistakes. The company's bad crew is not my responsibility and cannot be prioritized over my home, our contracted agreement, state code, and manufacturers installation instructions.

The amount of overlap on the drip edge does not impact the shingle manufacturer warranty.  I have also emailed you pictures of the wood decking replacement and the underlayment installation.  With that said I am happy to modify the drip edge to achieve greater overlap.  I do not recommend greater drip edge over lap as there is limited added benefit and the overlapping metal does get bulky from a visual stand point.  We nail the starter course of shingles slightly higher to reduce the chance that water can back up into the nail holes.  We do this because this provides a more water tight roof installation for our customers.  With that said, we can mechanically fasten the starter course with adhesive.  This again has not voided the warranty.  As I have communicated through email, the warranty is in full effect.  Thank you.

contracted to get siding replaced.waited 4 months to get scheduled & when the materials were delivered i saw they had sent the wrong color,a light brown not the dark brown i ordered. was told 4-6 weeks more to reorder the right color,so i compromised & went ahead with the lighter color. mentioned to the foreman several times i felt i should get a discount for my trouble & helping them out as well.i called john barbera & learned he no longer owns this company,so the $500 i aked for off fell on deaf ears with new owners, never even mentioned it at payment time.they did not get stuck with a large, wrong order so i feel a $500 discount is very fair. have used them 3 times now,but very disappointed with the new owners

I received and reviewed your complaint.  Firstly, I want to apologize. It is our goal to always deliver the best customer service.  We did order the siding color that was signed off in the contract but I do apologize for any confusion.  We were happy to exchange the siding for a different color when it was delivered, free of charge.  Because we price our siding jobs so aggressively and try to deliver the highest value for our customers, It is difficult to take $500 off the job because we are already operating with very tight margins. Should you need anything in the future or any service requests, please do not hesitate to contact us.
