***** from Bright Gas Fireplace Repair came to my home to fix my gas fireplace after another repairman from another company had messed it up trying to get it to work. ***** showed a video using his cellphone to his boss, *******, who said it would be $575 to rebuild it. I agreed and I authorized a charge of $287 up front on my credit card and another $287 upon completion.

***** asked me to turn the gas on and he began to disassemble the pilot assembly, he then called his boss, *******, back and showed him another video.  ******* then quoted me $3500 to install a whole new system. ******* said he wasn’t going to be responsible for fixing my current fireplace and blowing my house up and that I needed a whole new system. I told ******* he was trying to take advantage of me and that I had agreed to replacing parts which ***** told me he could do but ******* insisted on a whole new system for $3500!!! I told ******* that wasn’t going to happen, that I would agree to replacing parts but not to a whole new system. ******* refunded the charge of $287 on my credit card but proceeded with charging me $125 for an inspection and diagnosis.

I would not have an issue with ******* charging me the $125 if it was going towards the repair which I originally agreed to. But when ******l tried to change it from a repair to a whole new system I no longer wanted to do business with him. He tried to take advantage of me. I do not feel I owe him anything. I mean I already knew my fireplace wasn’t working and needed new parts.

Afterwards I had another repairman look at and disassemble the gas fireplace. He showed me it’s a very simple setup with 3 basic parts: an igniter, a gas valve, and a pilot assembly for $250 in parts.
