Dates: May 10 - May 26, 2025 Money paid: $0 Spoke with Kaylor about replacing the existing crumbling foundation on our barn as well as straightening the wooden exterior wall that had been kicked out over the years due to the foundation pushing out. Kaylor assured us that he did barn repair and was confident he could put in new foundation and straighten the wall. We discussed the details of the repair and came to a mutual agreement of how the job was to be completed.

After Kaylor finished the job and sent an invoice, we did a walk through and noticed the following issues:

The exterior wooden wall still kicks out as it is clear the foundation was not laid in the correct spot. Since the wall still kicks out, the main support posts now only rest on a small lip of their base and the main post in the middle doesn't rest on anything. The barn measures 30' 6" but he only bought 30' of lumber to use so the sill plates don't come together. Kaylor tried to fix with a loose piece of lumber stuck in to fill the gap.Lost some original siding. The main support post on the * side of the barn overhangs the foundation and sill plate by 1"

We talked to Kaylor in person about the issues with the barn and discussed 3 options of how we could fix the issues.

Option 1-knocking down the foundation and laying the foundation in the correct place.

Option 2-pulling off all the siding, placing shims under the siding that would make the side appear perpendicular (but would not fix the structural issues inside).

Option 3-cutting the top block in half, pouring cement to create a drip edge and allowing the support posts to rest the majority of their weight on the sill plate; however, about 2" of the support posts would overhang to rest on nothing.

We decided the only correct way was for the foundation to be taken down and start over. We texted this to Kaylor, his response was he felt the barn wasn't safe to work in and will not be doing anything and asked us to cover cost of materials.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/07/2025

    Good morning.

I am sorry about how the barn turned out and that they are not satisfied. As of right now here is where I am at

Option 1 original material deposits be paid as requested see first estimate dated 11/18/2024. then I can come back and tear out the wall as requested. And replace it where customers want it. I will pour footers then customers need to mark out the wall exactly where they want it on the footers. Upon completion date remaining balance of invoice due.

Option 2 I will set final revised invoice to $0 leave the wall and customers can hire another contractor to replace the foundation.
