      My dog had passed last October and I wanted to get another dog from the same breeder (BerryHill). I filled out their extensive puppy application including pictures of my front and back yard and 3 non-family member references. I was approved, but Linda told me she already had deposits down for all the males. I then searched for another breeder, put a deposit down on their litter and after weeks of waiting, there was no litter afterall. So I contacted Linda again in case things had changed and they did. She now said I would be 2nd male pick of her litter due 6/3. The litter was born 6/2 and Linda asked me on 6/3 if I was still interested. I said yes and mailed her my $320 deposit. After 4 weeks of receiving videos of the new pups and falling madly in love with them, Linda changed her mind about me and tore up my deposit. This is a breach of our contract and has caused me extreme emotional distress. Even after "losing" the pup from the first breeder (which felt like a human miscarriage to me), it was nothing compared to this one since these pups were already born and I had been watching them grow. Also, their great grandfather is my late dog's father, so it wasn't just "another litter" to me and couldn't be replaced. I have reached out to her several times to offer any apologies for something I may have said that offended her and try to understand the justification of her action. I urged her to contact my 3 character references from my puppy application if she has any doubt about the kind of pet parent I am and how much I love my dogs instead of making an inaccurate assumption about me from a text. It seems that she is just randomly selecting who gets her puppies and can change her mind at any time no matter what contracts have been made. I never did ask how I moved up to 2nd pick from our initial email, but maybe she did the same thing with those families. Why ask for references if you don't use them? She is playing with people's hearts and lives.
